Marriott Rewards finally launches its new online game

(EDIT:  There is some confusion about how this works.  It appears that you can only win an instant prize ONCE, irrespective of how many days you play.  This makes no sense, as there are 2 million prizes to be won, but this is how it appears to be working.  Whether this is meant to be how it works I don’t know!)

As part of Marriott’s latest MegaBonus promotion, it announced a ‘daily play’ competition called ’29 Ways To Stay’ with 2 MILLION prizes to be won.  Whilst MegaBonus is already underway, the competition only started yesterday after some technical delays.

You can click to play here.

First, a quick reminder about MegaBonus which has now got better ….

The new MegaBonus offer is called ‘MegaBonus In More Places’.  It runs from 26th September to 31st January. You receive:

2,000 bonus points for every 2+ night stay plus

1,000 bonus points for each new brand, starting with your 2nd brand

Marriott has now added two extra bonuses to spice up the deal:

10,000 bonus points when you stay at 10 brands

29,000 bonus points when you stay at all 29 brands

The last one is surely a joke – awarding 290,000 points would have been more realistic.  The geographical spread of the brands means that you’d need to do a world tour to hit them all.  Protea is only in Africa for example.

Given that Marriott / Starwood now covers all of these brands – AC Hotels, Aloft, Autograph, Courtyard, Delta Hotels, Design Hotels, Edition, Element, Fairfield Inn, Four Points, Gaylord, Le Meridien, Marriott, Protea, Renaissance, Residence Inn, St Regis, Sheraton, The Luxury Collection, The Ritz-Carlton, Springhill Suites, Towneplace Suites, W, Westin – you won’t be struggling for places to stay.

Our main article on MegaBonus In More Places is here.  You can register for the promotion here.  Note that the home page has not yet been adjusted to reflect the new 10 brand and 29 brand bonuses.

Marriott 29 Ways Competition

But what about the competition?

The competition is called ’29 Ways To Stay’.  Today (Friday) is Day 2 and it will run for 29 days in total.

Click here to enter.  I won 50 points today!

You will be shown six playing cards to click.  When you match a pair, you’ll be asked a question about the hotel pictured.  Get all three right and you may get a prize.

Weirdly, it seems that you can only win ONE instant win prize irrespective of how many days you play.

Every entry goes into a final draw to win a fairly bonkers master prize – a 2-night stay at EVERY Marriott hotel brand.  That means you get 29 x 2-night stays!  You don’t get your travel costs paid.  Whoever wins this will have some very interesting travel planning to do – luckily you have five years to use all the vouchers.

The other prizes are:

  • 87 prizes of 4-night hotel stays (3 winners per brand, you don’t get to choose the brand you get)
  • 75,000 DAILY prizes of 50 Marriott Rewards points
  • 5,000 DAILY prizes of 500 Marriott Rewards points
  • 2,500 DAILY prizes of 1,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 500 DAILY prizes of 2,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 250 DAILY prizes of 3,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 100 DAILY prizes of 4,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 75 DAILY prizes of 5,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 50 DAILY prizes of 10,000 Marriott Rewards points
  • 16 DAILY prizes of 20,000 Marriott Rewards points

Marriott states that it expects you to have a 50/50 chance each day of winning a prize although most of us will only get 50 points!

The competition is open to residents of the United States (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), Argentina (excluding Mendoza, Neuquén, Río Negro, Salta and Tierra del Fuego), Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, India, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, South Africa and United Kingdom.  That’s a slightly odd mix – I’m not sure what the Spanish or Irish did to upset Marriott!

Marriott 29 Ways to Stay competition

Conclusion

I’d value 50 Marriott points at around 25p, so it is not necessarily a great use of your time.  However, there is a chance that you get a better prize – statistically I would expect at least one HFP reader to win a hotel stay.

More importantly, the 50 points will reset the expiry date on your Marriott Rewards account.  If you are overseeing any accounts with no recent activity it is worth playing for a couple of days until you win 50 points.

  1. Optimus Prime says:

Thanks, Rob. Wife has won 50 points I’ve got 500 🙂

  2. Jordan D says:

Won 50pts yesterday (day 1), nothing today. So 50% holds true …

  3. Steve S says:

Marriott related but off topic. Has anyone stayed at the Sheraton Grand Dubai?
    50 points for me

  4. Also Marriott related but off topic. I believe pre merger Marriott were the only big chain which recognised status on third party bookings. Is that still the case?

  5. 500 points for me!!

  6. The Marriott game doesn’t seem to work in Firefox (61.0.2).
    Flipped cards are blank.
    (Ad blocker is off).
Any suggestions aside from “just use Chrome”?

    • Shoestring says:

      Opera

      • Or Vivaldi..

      • RussellH says:

        No problems with Opera, agreed.
Also none with Firefox ESR 52.9.0 (+ Adblocker, +Ghostery)
I do not suppose Marriott are clever enough to give points just for using a really obscure browser? I have Basilisk, but have very seldom actually used it.

    • Doesn’t matter that the cards are blank. You can still just click around and match them up, its getting the questions right that matters.

as a firefox user you know Chrome should only be used as a last resort (a bit like those IE-only sites), quite frankly your better off getting a decent utility to change user-agent rather than changing browser.

Also only got 50pts, but fine for less than a minute of clicking about.

    • Not working for me either. Matched two pictures but then nothing.

    • Try Opera?

  7. Wooo 1000 points. Now just need to get the Amex SPG ones to finally post……

    • Is there a delay with SPG points – been waiting over two months now…

      • yes – Ive been told should be fixed within the next week.
I am missing August + September.
Oddly October has posted – so I think they have got to the bottom of the issue & now waiting for back points.

      • Had a July / Aug balance just come through today

  8. Result…..1000 Points!

  9. surprised you are doing an extra article on this rob, but not on the unbelievable 700 pounds fares in first class on BA from SA to Spain – thought you’d be all over it like a rash, your readers certainly will be.

    • My son was in nappies the last time BA honoured a mistake fare.

      We don’t cover them.

      • ???? ???? ????

      • Also, positioning to South Africa for a flight to Barcelona is frankly ridiculous. Mistake fares ex-LON would arguably be interesting to cover, ex-EUs are probably a bit niche, but an ex-SA…?

    • As you were!

    • I’m amazed that OMAAT covered it – it’s so obviously a mistake it’ll never be honoured. Just look at the negative press BA were happy to get recently over those Tel Aviv fares that were about £15 cheaper and not in any way obviously a mistake.

  10. Anthony says:

bagged 1,000 points – happy friday!

  11. perfect, I needed 500 points for a redemption before christmas and this saves me moving any from MR!

    • you may not get those points before Christmas as it will take 8 weeks after game finish

  12. chris1922 says:

You don’t need to answer the question correctly, I got a question about TED talks wrong, after matching cards and “won” 50 points. And am apparently entered into the bigger draw

  13. Scottydogg says:

Only 50 points for me today
Cany say its as good / profittable as that one they had on Twitter during the American football , getting 1000 each week from that …

Still , ill play every day and see what happens .
Would love to win that top prize !

  14. A friend has won the four night stay voucher at Marriott.

  15. 500 points! Thank you Rob.

  16. Jill (Kinkell) says:

I’m presented with 6 black Marriott postcards…..and nothing happens on clicking on them. Using my iPad . Any ideas?

    • Tilly71 says:

I’ve read someone won 4000 pts today.

    • RussellH says:

      Try a proper computer??
      🙂
I consider myself lucky if anything works as it should using a tablet. Screens just zoom back and forth even when I try not to touch them.

  17. Anyone else have problems entering the competition?
I click on Rob’s link and get a forbidden permission error

  18. 3000 points thanks saved me concerting MR points

  19. Are you seeing points actually posting to your Marriott account instantly for the game? My 50 points from lunchtime (whoop! Lucky darts) haven’t posted yet.

  20. There are very limited number of countries that can participate in this game which is not fair. I am a lifetime Platinum and still cannot participate in this game.. what a shame to discriminate residents of certain countries… would love to be part of the game…
