OT: A friend just signed up for amex but did not get a decision yet. I know this is the norm (kind of). Whats the average number of days they approve an application?

    • Liz says:

Anything from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. We are normally a couple of weeks even though we have previous history with Amex. No rhyme or reason.

    • FlyUpTop says:

Depends, they are terrible at updating applicants of progress. Every time I have applied I get the can’t give you an immediate decision then about a week later a card pops through the letterbox.

    • Anna says:

I always get accepted immediately but there’s usually a delay with my OH who earns 3 times what I do! As Liz says, no rhyme or reason.

    • Natalie says:

They are quoting 10 days but from experience if you pick up the phone they will put you through to the new membership team who will complete the application on the spot for you.

  • John G says:

Might also be worth adding the last date to use IB Avios from the crazy promo!

  • SG says:

Applied on Tuesday(history with Amex),no update on progress, next Monday email thanking for signing up to paperless, card arrived next day.
No Shopp small map available for Jersey when I’ve last checked yesterday!

  • Craig says:

OT: Does anyone know roughly when the next Qatar sale will be?

    • Froggee says:

No – but the last two were rubbish. However have a look at BA’s Black Friday offers (starts Thursday at midday). For the last BA sale, they were selling Qatar flights as code shares and e.g. Bali was £2k booking Qatar as a BA codeshare on BA compared to £3k with a Qatar flight number.

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

OT: any recent experiences with the Four Seasons Hampshire? I remember you thought very highly of it but you last review (in 2017) was described as a disaster.

I’d hope now that the reservations were complete the hotel is now back on track and offering excellent service. Didn’t the Canary Wharf FS lose its franchise due to not meeting brand standards?

    • Rob says:

We were back there in August and all was good. The new restaurant works really well for families (admittedly a bit less well for anyone wanting a romantic dinner for two) and I believe the new kids swimming pool opened last month, only 5 years after I was told it was coming! New General Manager now as Lynn was parachuted into Park Lane after the GM there resigned to join the huge crowd of FS staff being headhunted by Jumeirah.

  • Mark2 says:

The limit for Amex referrals (for Platinum anyway) is per calendar year.
So time to check whether you have used your full quota and, if not, see who else you can find (including possibly yourself).
I have just checked and Platinum allows all cards to be selected from the referral..

  • Neil Donoghue says:

OT: Virgin Atlantic Rewards card (Free version) despite being declined online, I appealed over the phone and received an email today saying I have now been issued the card. I currently hold the paid version of the card so a nice sign up bonus for spending £1k. Thanks again Rob

  • Tom1 says:

There are quite a few SPG moments for the O2 in the coming days/weeks.
Starting at 30,000 points I think it’s decent value for the all-inclusive tickets.
