The last British Airways Boeing 767 flight took place yesterday

At 22.35 last night, the arrival of the British Airways flight from Larnaca marked the final commercial Boeing 767 flight for the airline.

Both remaining aircraft are due to fly out of Heathrow on Monday to the BA maintenance facility in Wales – I’m not sure what will become of them but it seems unlikely they will fly again.

There were originally 11 aircraft in the fleet, with the first arriving in 1989.  At one point the fleet grew to 28 although many ended up being leased to other airlines.

I was thinking of putting together an article on the British Airways 767 fleet but it turns out that it has already been done, far better than I could have done it, in this article by a BA pilot.  I strongly recommend you read it if you’re interested in this sort of thing.

In truth, it is being polite to say that the British Airways fleet had seen better days.

The regular random pinging of call bells was a common complaint, something which gets annoying on a four hour flight, as were complaints over water leakage from the galley running down the cabin.  And the broken seats.  And arm rests.  And tray tables.  And the locked-out loos ….

OT – anyone any experience of using the oneworld south american airpass?

Aiming for a trip around the continent and see that they offer this product for travelling around the continent, but difficult to find much info on line.
    TIA

    • Neil says:

I searched for weeks trying to get more information on this product! I couldn’t find anything online so in the end decided to call Trailfinders and they sorted everything out….Ironically, after all that I ended up using avios as I discovered taxes are so flipping cheap in South America! GL

      • Simon says:

Thanks Gill – will be in and out with BA courtesy of a 2-4-1. Will speak to a TA and get them to do the leg work, Seems the internet doesn’t have the answers for everything!

        • Matt says:

I’m currently in South America and had a look at the airpass for the internal flights. It turned out to be cheaper just to book them separately, especially if you don’t stick to Latam for every flight.

      • Simon says:

        Cheers Neil,

the avios option is another great idea – thanks.

    • Gill says:

Someone posted recently and although I can’t find the thread the general advise was use a TA and get them to price up your itinerary with pass / without. If i recall correctly the airpass can only be used if you’re flying oneworld airline into south america and the only way to book is over the phone with a oneworld airline (who I believe often do not know anything about this product). The poster did mention a decent saving.

Cheers Matt – really useful to know

OT – is it no longer possible to transfer Marriott points between family members online, the way it was with SPG? I can’t see a way to do it on the website…

    • guesswho2000 says:

Wondering this too, I’ve emailed Marriott because I CBA to call them, but they’ve not bothered replying, so I might have to.

    • Lee says:

You have to call them and the maximum points you can transfer is 100k every year even with booking.

    • Rob says:

Still possible, limit is now 100k per year too.

      • Will says:

Isn’t there a clause about “unless to complete a specific redemption” in which case they can waive the cap at booking time? I’ve not tried this but it essentially makes it unlimited if it’s true.

  • AmandaB says:

I hated this plane. My regular flights to Larnaca had to be time perfectly to avoid the the B767 route.

  • Judge says:

I don’t understand how they are going to manage without the B767s. Don’t they need a whole load of A350s that they don’t have yet?

On a flight last month to Athens, the whole front two cabins were fully booked with CE. An A321 cannot plug that gap, nor as Allan points out can it substitute for the very high capacity very short haul flights to EDI, AMS etc.

Whilst these aircraft were certainly rather elderly, as Kev points out the seats were more comfortable and with much better legroom that the A321 (in both classes). I hope they have a huge order of A350s coming and a Finnair style of seating would make a lot more sense (and differentiate better from competitors) for the longer short-haul flights to Athens etc, which are more mid-haul.

  • Tony says:

767 still being built as a freighter but not a good machine to fly.
The Airbus replacements have I believe about 30 seats less.

  • Chris says:

Not sure if it’s just appeared but there is a teaser list on the PointsBreak page now

  • AndyF says:

Does anyone know if there are any deals going on for billhop at the moment to reduce the 2.95% fee? Thanks

  • Stephen C says:

My 1-year-old daughter has a BAEC number, I think she got it when I added her to my Household Account (they gave me Avios to do so after I got my status extended by a year due to paternity)
