IHG, the owner of InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, recently bought UK chain Principal Hotels, which brought with it some De Vere assets. We covered this deal here and we are very keen on it, because the refurbished Principal Hotels are excellent.
This article from The Caterer reveals some rebranding information which has not previously been publicised. This is what we will see next year – the dates refer to the rebranding date as, except where noted, the hotels are already open:
InterContinental – Edinburgh (Principal The George, June 2019)
Kimpton – Principals in London (already switched, photo above), Edinburgh (Charlotte Square, March 2019, picture below), Glasgow (Blythswood Square, April 2019), Manchester (September 2019), Birmingham (The Grand, still closed for refurbishment, 2020)
voco – Cardiff (Principal St David’s, already switched), Oxford (Principal Spires, January 2019), Oxford (De Vere Thames, April 2019), Glasgow (Principal Grand Central, September 2019)
Hotel Indigo – Leeds (Principal Met, 2020)
We still don’t know where Principal York, the still-to-open Principal Liverpool and De Vere Wotton House will end up.
