The American Express Centurion Lounge in Covent Garden is open – what’s inside?

The American Express Centurion Lounge is back for 2018.  Until 16th December, the pop-up lounge is open at Unit 6, Langley Street, which is about 60 seconds walk from Covent Garden tube station.

Entry is available for all Platinum and Centurion cardholders.  There are free drinks for all – although the champagne had run out by 5pm last night when I arrived – and there is also the odd bit of free food coming round.  Click to enlarge the pictures:

There is also a gift wrapping station and, at least yesterday, an area downstairs where you could get an airline sleep mask monogrammed.

The lounge is open between 11am and 6pm.  Up to two guests are allowed per Platinum or Centurion cardholder.

Thanks to Alan for these photos, which were better than the ones I took.

  • Cat says:

OK, does anyone know, do I need to bring my own sleep mask to be monogrammed, or are they giving them away?

    • tartan says:

They have them there but they had a backlog when I enquired at about 3pm yesterday, so they weren’t taking any more requests. I was able to grab a blank one though

    • Rhys says:

Pretty sure the masks were a one off. They do something different every day – I’ll email and see what the program is…

      A sentence I never thought I’d read.

  • Pascal says:

    Hey Rob,

I have the problem the other way around. Since the server change the desktop site often shows on mobile. Need to then refresh/click on another page and then it gets back to normal.

  • Boi says:

OT: posted this late last night-reposting with hope of more responses:
Any good wine deals/offer stack for wine out there. It’s that time of year where I have to get wine for friends (I don’t drink).

    • Rich says:

25% off when your buy 6 is a permanent offer at Tesco. Stacks with the targeted spend coupons they mail out.

    • Anna says:

Aldi deliver wine if you have the £10 back Amex offer. I’ve just started using this service since Tesco Wine closed – their “Exquisite” collection seems to be good value for money, lovely wines.

    • Shoestring says:

See if you can use my Virgin Wines £30 off a case voucher VGX30-26F6B-7D35

    • h2d says:

I recently took advantage of laithwaites bundled offers – TV offer you can find on homepage gives £40 off £100 spend, plus buy 12 bottles for further discount on each bottle you select (varies by bottle), plus a £20 off £60 through amex offers. Got £140 odd pounds of wine at ‘list’ price for £60 all-in. Worth checking Amex offers more generally as naked/virgin/laithwaites often on there and clearly double up on any other offers you can find.

    • David says:

Yes I had to cancel and re-order. Which it turns out you can’t do on the phone to Majestic head office (I noticed immediately and phoned within 3 minutes and still no!). But the branch (as always) were super-helpful.

  • Andrew says:

O/T but Heathrow related. The HEX 250 Heathrow Rewards points per transaction offer: I bought several tickets and the £8.80 ones and above all post with 250 bonus points but the very cheapest £5.50 tickets do not, just the standard 6 points. So be warned, wait until the £8.80 tickets go on sale and buy them to get the extra points.

    • John B says:

Just send your receipt email to their customer service and they should add them?

    • Rob says:

I asked HR for clarification of this before it launched and I was told there were NO exceptions. Annoyingly the HR boss is leaving this week but I will see if I can get hold of him.

      • John B says:

I can confirm I emailed by e receipt for a £5.50 advance purchase to them, earlier this week, points were added by customer service within 24hrs. I haven’t bought any other tickets.

    • Callum says:

Why would you deliberately spend £3.30 extra to get 250 points?

      • Brian says:

Crazy, isn’t it, how people’s common sense often just goes out of the window at the mention of a few bonus miles.

        • Lady London says:

Er…might depend who’s paying. especially if the £8-odd price is already better than usual.

        • Alex W says:

HR often have 50% bonus to Virgin which I value at 1.25p. So £4.69 worth of points.

  • Nick says:

Disappointing that it closes at 6. The initial Vista email doesn’t even mention the times so remembering the lounge opened yesterday I popped around at 8ish. Of course, closed.
Why not open later and close around 9-10 so you get the evening crowd as well.

Again, a half arsed effort from Amex.

  • Kevin C says:

They are doing sleep masks again on Sunday afternoon. I don’t know what they are doing at other times. It must be different food at different times of day because it was afternoon tea themed when I popped in for half an hour yesterday.

    • tartan says:

Lunch was between 12:00 and 14:30 yesterday. They were serving small bowls of food – I had a grilled chicken dish which was very pleasant. If you turn up expecting party food then you won’t be disappointed

      • Alan says:

Washed down with that nice Japanese whisky 😛

        • Shoestring says:

tartan sounds like you got your money’s worth 🙂

were you there about 5 hours? lol

          • Alan says:

Haha not quite, had to squeeze it all in within 2h. Thankfully bar staff were fantastic and not averse to big orders – the photo above was of us getting 4 goji berry martinis made at once 😉

          • Alan says:

I think tartan went for the full menu sampling though, including afternoon tea!

        • Shoestring says:

if tartan’s back there for another 5 hours today I’ll be well impressed 🙂

        • Tartan says:

Sadly I’ve been working from home today – probably for the best really! I was only there for about 4 hours…..

          • Alan says:

Noooo 😛 My friends are heading back each day, is making Christmas shopping rather pleasant for them!

  • Alan says:

Bits OT – total chaos at T5 this morning. Fire alarm closing HEX and Tube. Was trying to get from T4 (stayed at the new HIX, pretty decent) but local buses totally rammed and no signage about closure so wasted time going to Heathrow Central on HEX! Hopefully will be sorted soon.

    • Tilly says:

Hope it’s sorted by this afternoon, flying from T5 this evening, planning on getting there around 5:30pm.
