Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

How many tier points does each BA route earn?

How many tier points do you earn from a British Airways flight?

This article is HfP’s own British Airways tier point calculator.  It lists every British Airways flight from London together with the tier points that you will earn in British Airways Executive Club.

If you want to know how many tier points you earn for a particular British Airways flight, there is no official list.  You need to go to ba.com and use the BA Tier Point Calculator page, route by route.

How many British Airways tier points will I earn from my flight?

It isn’t ideal, especially if you want to plan a trip to maximise your tier point earning.  You cannot, for example, easily find which Club Europe routes earn 160 tier points for a return trip instead of the usual 80 tier points.

We have created this table as a one-stop reference – our own Head for Points British Airways tier point calculator.  It is a sister resource to our ‘list of Avios redemption pricing for all BA routes’.

The list below calculates the tier points you earn for every British Airways flight from London.  The tier points shown are for a one-way flight.  For simplicity we have shown all travel classes although some long-haul routes do not have First Class.

Bronze requires 300 tier points, Silver requires 600 tier points and Gold requires 1,500 tier points.  Tier point earning for partner airlines works slightly differently – flights under 2,000 miles are treated as short-haul (40 tier points each-way in Business) and the remainder as long-haul (140 or 160 tier points each-way in Business).  You cannot earn status purely from partner flights – you also need four cash flights BA flights, or two for Bronze, in your membership year.

Coronavirus update – many routes listed below are not currently flying and may not return for some time.  We have kept the data here for completeness.  The list was also updated to reflect Moscow, Amman and Cairo becoming short haul routes in November 2020.

Key:

  • ET/WT = Euro Traveller / World Traveller (short-haul economy and long-haul economy)
  • WTP = World Traveller Plus (long-haul premium economy)
  • CE/CW = Club Europe / Club World (short-haul business and long-haul business)

If you want to download this data so you can manipulate the columns as you want, you can.  This makes it easy, for example, to see which Club Europe routes are in the 160 tier points return band, or which Club World routes are in the higher 320 tier points return band.  Click here to download the spreadsheet in Excel format.

  • Tom says:

The main benefit of status is that you earn a bonus number of miles. For instance LHR-SFO-LHR in First gets you 37,000 Avios if you are Gold.

First-Wing check-in and the First lounge at LHT T5 makes a difference as well.

    • Andrew says:

And on lowest fare economy, Gold actually earns you 5x what a blue member would earn as it is 25% of miles + 100% of miles (rather than 25% of miles + 25% of miles as you might expect when you read that Gold earns 100% bonus Avios on BA flights). Conversely, the 100% bonus does not apply to the cabin bonus you get in Club or First. So Gold is more valuable to those booking lowest fare economy than those flying First (and who of course would also have access to First Wing etc anyway).

i am planing to visit Orlando on the 2nd week of February I feel dumbed cause the price on BA Business is very disappointing i want to travel on BA to maintain my Silver status
    Any advise

    • Andrew says:

You could try an indirect route with AA and earn many more TPs.

    • Worth checking if they have avios availability. Booking premium economy and upgrading with Avios is often fantastic value as the fare can be not much more than the “taxes” and you still earn some tier points and avios

    • Anna says:

You’re travelling near to the half term holiday so reasonable prices and avios availability will both be in very short supply. Going indirectly or flying to another Florida airport would be your best bet (Miami/Fort Lauderdale/Tampa).

    • Lady London says:

I noticed fares booked from the On Business account whilst logged in there began to be mostly higher. I’d suggest you clear cookies, not log in at all then get fare quotes. As soon as you’ve made the booking go into Manage my Booking and you can add your ob details. I also don’t think there’s any issue collecting regular Avios if you book via a t/a or ota by adding your exec club number and checking very carefully which fare class they would book you into and what you would earn (not ob just regular Avios).

    • Lady London says:

Also try any other Florida airport like Tampa, MIA, Sarasota, etc. You can hire a car and drop it at a different airport there usually without extra fee.

      • @mkcol says:

Plus with (Avis) rentals in Florida your spouse/domestic partner is included as a free additional driver.

  • sayling says:

    Hi Rob
I’ve downloaded both the Tier Points and Avios Pricing spreadsheets, which are great, thanks.
I’ve also added the Pricing destinations to the sheet that you added to the article, but note that the TP sheet is missing details for Brindisi.
Further, I’ve combined the two into one sheet – would you like a copy?

  • Qwerty Bertie says:

When are tier points credited, at point of purchase (and clawed back if ticket cancelled), or after attendance on the flight has been confirmed?

How about moving through the tiers, is the new status & benefits granted instantaneously when the tier points credit? (Subject to the required number of flights of course.)

    • Rob says:

Post flight. You are upgraded immediately once you hit the threshold.

      • Genghis says:

Not quite immediately. Takes a couple of days.

        • Lady London says:

And if the flight you’re waiting to be credit is Qatar, then don’t wait just phone BA and ask if they can see you took it and can they credit it, if you are waiting for status.

Apparently some QR flights take a while to be credited otherwise. Luckily I had kept an eye on it and phoned BA when I really needed it credited and it worked.

  • Qwerty Bertie says:

Thanks, I was afraid that would be the answer. Was contemplating a short trip prior to an already intended first class holiday to Mauritius, hoping I would be able to use the silver status for the holiday.

    • Lady London says:

No just as with accruing Avios those are only done after the flight is flown. However I’d earned enough on longhaul outbound to add to my existing tier points so I was due to be upgraded – and got upgraded by phoning as above, before I got on the plane for the return trip.

However if you are flying First Class @Qwerty Bertie then you would get many of the status benefits anyway such as access to lounges on your trip due to your travel class and you won’t need status, and luggage allowance in First is quite reasonable too.

      • Qwerty Bertie says:

That’s a very good point, thank you. Given how infrequently I fly, it’s probably better to keep putting up with the occasional economy flight without status (but with Amex granted PP) and then look out for first or business class deals for the family, redeeming points whenever possible.

  • Ian M says:

I took my first flight with BA since reaching Gold status for the first time a few days. I was surprised no one from the crew said anything. When I reached bronze status they congratulated me on my first flight following reaching it. Same with Silver. I was looking forward to seeing if I got a special thank you or congratulations, but instead I got nothing whatsoever

    • ChrisC says:

It is not a compulsory part of the CSDs job to do a welcome to Golds – whether newly minted or long standing – but a ‘if you get time’ task and some manage to find the time to either do it themselves or brief the other CC to do it and others don’t.

It also depends on the change being noted on the CSDs iPad. And it can take time for recent status changes to filter through the BA systems.

  • James says:

Why not remove the extra WTP/CW/F columns as Lowest and Flexible earns the same for each class.

  • Sean says:

    Thank you for this.

This is perhaps a daft question, but I’m struggling to find the fare class on the not so ‘new and improved’ booking platform as you once could. Is this still available elsewhere and I’m simply blind?
