The YOTEL San Francisco hotel will open on 1st March

I did an article yesterday on the opening of the new Virgin Hotels San Francisco, which has special offers for Virgin Flying Club members.

At the cheaper end of the scale, YOTEL is opening in San Francisco on 1st March.  It will be in a refurbishment of a historic building on Market Street.  The YOTEL San Francisco website is here.

Club@YOTEL is the loyalty scheme for the chain, although it doesn’t offer much in the way of benefits.  You can read more about Club@YOTEL and sign up here.

You can also earn Virgin Flying Club miles when you stay with YOTEL:

You can find out more about earning miles with YOTEL on the Virgin Atlantic website here.

Club@YOTEL is also a partner with Flying Blue, the Air France / KLM frequent flyer scheme.  This HfP article tells you how Club@YOTEL, the YOTEL membership scheme, works and what the benefits are.

The Chinese seem to have taken it a step further…I think there is some adevertising on the shell of the seat too.
This looks similar to the adverts Ryanair had on their overhead bins a few years back. They never seemed to advertise anything more than regions paying Ryanair to fly there.

    • BJ says:

Air Asia have been adverising on luggage bins and seat backs for years, mostly for their own group services and products.

    • Joseph Heenan says:

That advertising is far more acceptable than the awful ads klm/airfrance/etc show before everything you watch on the IFE!

OT: I need to book 2 rooms at a hotel in London. I’m a Hilton diamond and my partner is Gold. Would it be better to book 2 rooms from my account as that would give me more points? However, I don’t know if the second room will have a chance of an upgrade or be given free breakfast as I want to book the room only rate for both rooms as breakfast would be complimentary for me anyway. If I book the second room from my partner’s account would that be better? I’m looking at Hilton Syon Park or Hilton Wembley and both rooms will have 2 adults and 1 kid. Please advise.

    • John says:

You may get free breakfast for everyone booking both rooms as Diamond, but the only ways to guarantee it are to ask the hotel before booking, or to book the second room from the Gold account (and have breakfast selected as the benefit).

    • Nick G says:

We took our 5 yr old to syon park for two nights in November. Room only as I’m silver can’t comment on breakfast. Sadly the park was closed but the hotel is lovely staff very friendly and the rooms great. We ate there both nights and lunch on one day.

The staff couldn’t have been more thoughtful to our son. The spa and pool were a massive plus and the family swimming time I think considerate to others. Plus great grounds for walking and plane spotting if that’s your boat😉 can’t reccomend the hotel enough

  • Mark says:

From a cursory glance I thought this was BA First! Let’s hope Mr Cruz doesn’t get any ideas, I’m sure there are lots of high viz jacket companies that would love to advertise in a BA cabin…

  • The Original Nick says:

O:T, If you took up the recent shangri-la GC app bonus out might be worth checking your account as I’ve had it awarded again this week.

    • Jonathan says:

Not for me. Had you spent the first bonus? Any stays or other activity on your account?

    • Alan says:

Ditto, although whether I’ll be able to spend it before they realise and take it away again remains to be seen!

      • Tony says:

        This is interesting….

I just opened the SL app and it shows I have 520 points, Previously showed 250. Seems I got a further 250 for a travel agent stay at a SL then a further 20 which would relate to the suit I had pressed (part of the room rate) at the same hotel. Wish I’d known earlier as that’s a $50 bar tab!

    • Olly says:

      Me neither.

    • Benylin says:

      Thanks got mine 21 Jan!

  • Yuff says:

OT:bits is it possible to use the platinum £200 off offer and get them to take the payment straight away to’trigger the offer ?

    • David says:

Travel bookings are usually billed straight away. I think the £200 can take a week or so to credit

      • Yuff says:

Thanks, trying to book 2 single nights and use 2 cards, with the offer, but the website won’t seem to let me do a single night

      • Yuff says:

Thanks, trying to book 2 single nights to use 2 cards(offer) butbthe website won’t price a single night 😡

        • Alex W says:

Where are you staying that’s £600 per night?! Even with £200 discount that’s still a hefty price!

    • Alan says:

It needs to be on a prepay item to trigger the offer anyway.

      • BJ says:

How do we know for sure a hotel is prepaid, does it always say so? I am interested in booking a hotel that states free cancellation before 6 June; does that mean they will not charge it until then or will they just charge now and refund if I cancel?

        • TGLoyalty says:

If it’s an FHR or collection hotel you pay at the hotel.

Since 1 nice is c£600+ based on using a card for each night I suspect the hotel falls into one of those catagories as prepay are usually the lower end hotels.

        • Yuff says:

It’s in the hotel collection so offer doesn’t apply, so using £600 Clubcard vouchers instead as booking more than 2 nights

        • Alan says:

Yeah it should be a full prepayment/no cancellation one to make use of the offer, it should tell you what type it is. As others have said FHR and Hotel Collection definitely don’t count.

        • BJ says:

Thanks Alan. I will need to get back to the drawing board. Always have difficulty using these amex travel offers for one reason or another.

  • W Smith says:

OT, topped up curve, but the balance is still 0? Is this normal?

    • Simon says:

My understanding is that you can’t “top up” curve – it takes from your connected card in real time.

      • Dan says:

You top up the Amex wallet though?

        • Rob says:

          Yes.

Now clarified that you CAN’T do ATM withdrawals on Curve via Amex.

        • W Smith says:

I meant top up the Amex wallet – apparently it’s gone through but the balance in the wallet still says 0,

        • W Smith says:

I meant top up the Amex wallet – apparently it’s gone through but the balance in the wallet still says 0,

        • Dan says:

Yes, lots of issues in the beta with this. The good news is that curve have been releasing lots of updates and so sure it will be fixed soon ish

  • Roger says:

Curve Metal Subscripton – Anyone paid £150 per year for CM?
How is the payment taken? Can it be by connected Amex?

    • Sundar says:

Has this been rolled out to everyone or still in Beta for invitees ?

      • Dave B says:

Should I apply for the Beta ? Or is general roll out soon? I have the black card. My new 2for 1 year starts early March.

        • Rob says:

          Monday

        • Callum says:

So the Beta ends this Monday? Makes being given the link to sign up to it today rather pointless if so – Curve seems to have a unique ability to irritate me with everything they do!

        • Graham Walsh says:

I got an email saying they were looking for new beta users and they couldn’t be existing users. Don’t know when the beta ends, they haven’t mentioned it.

        • Bonglim says:

Is the beta invitation just a way of getting some people o sign up today so they whole system does not crash on Monday?

        • Alan says:

Will be surprised if fully open on Monday given folks still reporting bugs!

  • Sam says:

Did the folks who received the crashlytics email yesterday first recieve an email linking to a form to be completed? I just submitted mine, how long after does the crashlytics email/ link to the app come through?

    • Lou says:

      +1

The email I received suggested i’ve been selected subject to a few details they wanted to check, however when clciking through to the form it says

“Thank for your interest in applying for the 3rd wave of the Curve Amex Closed Beta Programme.
Prior to applying to participate, please read this form thoroughly.”

I had applied in December, to what I thought was the 2nd wave. Does this mean the round opened yesterday is now closed and by default the link is going through to the next round for applications? Or is this the same form others received yesterday?
