Here are three Qatar Airways pieces in one:

Qatar Airways launches new small business scheme

Qatar Airways has just launched ‘Beyond Business’, a new loyalty scheme for companies.  This is very similar to the British Airways On Business scheme, which I reviewed here.

It is a simple scheme.  Once your company is registered, you earn 1 Qreward point for every US$1 you spend on Qatar Airways flights.  Your points can be redeemed for Qatar Airways flights and flight upgrades.

For heavy spenders there are some extra perks:

Spend $25,000 and you get:

  • Double your earnings – two Qrewards for every $1 spent
  • Two passes for any Qatar Airways lounge
  • Two Silver tier Privilege Club memberships for any employee (BA Bronze equivalent)

Spend $100,000 and you get:

  • Triple your earnings – three Qrewards for every $1 spent
  • Five passes for any Qatar Airways lounge
  • Three Gold tier Privilege Club memberships for any employee (BA Silver equivalent)

It isn’t clear if the spend threshold is annual or ‘for ever’ – I guess annually. You can find out more, and sign-up, on this page of the Qatar Airways website.

Qatar Privilege Club sign up bonus

Qatar Airways letting you buy status points

It is very common for airlines to let you buy additional frequent flyer miles to top up your account.  What is very rare is for an airline to sell you status points.

I’m not sure how new this is, but a reader sent me details of a Qatar Airways status offer.

You can make a one-off purchase of Qpoints, the Qatar status currency, at $25 per point.  You are limited to one transaction every 36 months, so you would need to think carefully before jumping in.  There is no merit at all in buying all the Qpoints you need for status, since Qatar Airways Gold (equivalent to British Airways Silver) requires 300 points x $25!

The link to buy Qpoints is here.

Qatar Airways A350 Doha

Last call for 5,000 bonus Qmiles when you join Privilege Club

In a separate deal, you only have a few more days to register for Qatar Airways’ interesting promotion to encourage you to sign up for its Privilege Club loyalty scheme.

Whilst most Head for Points readers will be British Airways Executive Club members – and as both airlines are members of the oneworld alliance you can credit Qatar Airways flights to BA if you want – the extra perks with this deal mean that you still may want to take a look.

If you sign up as a new member of Qatar Airways Privilege Club before 31st January you will earn up to 5,000 bonus Qmiles on your first Qatar Airways flight taken before 28th February.

Your exact bonus depends on your class of travel:

2,500 bonus Qmiles for travel in economy

5,000 bonus Qmiles for any business or first class ticket

To qualify for the sign up bonus you MUST use the promotional code NSWEUR18 when you sign up to Privilege Club. The sign-up link for this promotion is here.

And a fast track to status ….

There’s more. In addition to your bonus miles, Qatar Airways has made it easier for new sign-ups using the above code to gain elite status.

If you earn 100 Qpoints between now and 28th February 2019 you will be upgraded to Silver tier by 15th March. Earning 200 Qpoints in the same time frame will get you Gold. This is significantly fewer Qpoints than normal, when you need 150 and 300 for Silver or Gold respectively.

Is it worth it?

You need to the maths here to decide if this is a better deal than crediting your flights to British Airways Executive Club.  Remember that Qatar Privilege Club Silver tier is the equivalent to British Airways Bronze and Qatar Gold matches to British Airways Silver.

You can work out how many miles you will earn from a flight credited to Privilege Club via this Qmiles calculator.  You can use the BA calculator to work out how many Avios you’d earn crediting the same flight to Executive Club.

On the redemption side:

Use this calculator on the Qatar Airways website to work out how many miles it costs for a specific redemption you are targeting using Qatar Airways Qmiles

Use this calculator on the British Airways website to work out how many miles it costs for a specific redemption you are targeting using Avios

Don’t forget to factor in the extra 2,500 to 5,000 Qmiles you’d receive under this offer. You will then be able to make a sensible decision based on your earning and redemption plans about whether this offer works well for you.

If it does, you can sign up to Privilege Club here where you will also find full details of the offer. The deadline for registering is tomorrow, 31st January, with flights to be taken by 28th February.

Has anyone past experience of a Qatars sale to include August in Its sale dates please? we booked during the sale in 2016 and 2017 but always for May And June.
Now we are restricted to UK School holidays we are literally waiting for the prices to drop (for Man – Bkk) it’s driving me nuts all these sky scanner searches.
I just want to book but just cannot justify the prices showing at the mo.
    Thanx

    • Polly says:

You just have to wait, and often there are no block out dates, so you should be good.

The recent ARN SIN one was ok, don’t think l saw August blocked out. That would have been good for you, esp, if you had the spend £600 credit of £200 on amex plat. Tickets worked out around 1150 pp. and you could have used local inter Asia LCC to get to BKK if ness.

      • Dannii says:

Thank you Polly, good to know sometimes August isn’t blocked out.
It means it might still happen as the current prices are out of our budget.
The offer didn’t come up on our Amex cards unfortunately (not sure if it’s due to us having the business versions).

        • Polly says:

Also Danni. Doubt you will get that good price form MAN. You may have to go ex Eu…

  • Chris Jones says:

I see Amex has blocked curve again!

  • Osagie says:

Regarding the new Beyond Business scheme, what’s the difference between it and the old Qbiz scheme which Qatar closed down a few months ago, at the same time as when they carried out a massive of their Privilege Club loyalty scheme?

    • Rob says:

Not sure – never looked into the old scheme. Points were converted across though.

  • Benylin says:

OT re: Shangri-la Jade member benefits

    1) “Partner stays in the same room and enjoys applicable breakfast benefit” – does this mean if I book a room just for myself (it prices cheaper than if I select 2 adults), my partner stays free?

    2) “Upgrade to the next best room category, if the reserved room type is not available at check-in” – any ideas if they offer free upgrade anyway?

Looking to go SL Delhi, probably will book the basic room or does anyone have any experience on Club rooms.

Or should I stay ITC Maurya? Have 2 nights in Delhi, start and end of my trip.

    • reds says:

Had lunch at the ITC Maurya last month. Nice hotel but stayed at the Four Points near the airport for convenience and it was a cheap redemption on spg point. Booked before the merger. FP was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.

  • James says:

Still no sign of the Qatar January sale. Not the main one they usually do. Been waiting patiently for that!

  • Dannii says:

  • ADS says:

when deciding whether to “jump in” – you also need to factor in how Qatar Airways treat Privilege Club. there was a lot of outrage at the way they handled the last devaluation.

and there were a lot of negative comments a few weeks ago when the bonus / fast track offer was first reported

    Bits…

Just had the notification through that Flybe leaves Avios on 30th April.
