Very generous offer of £75 Wheely credit from American Express

A good deal with Wheely, the London-based Uber competitor, has appeared on a lot of American Express cards.   You need to look under the ‘Offers’ section on the online statement page of each Amex card you have.

You will receive £25 cashback when you spend £25 with Wheely in one ride.  You can get the money up to three times until the offer expires on 17th May.  It is actually three x £25 credits per Amex card, so you may find that you can get it six or nine times depending on how many of your Amex cards it appears on.

Wheely

Wheely is equivalent to Uber Exec and Uber Luxe,  Its cheapest option is a Mercedes E-Class.

The biggest snag is the need to spend £25 in one ride.  It is NOT cumulative and you do not get any credit if you spend under £25.  Spend £24 and your net cost is £24.  Spend £26 and, with the credit, your ride will only cost £1.

This is not a problem if you are heading to an airport but on shorter trips you cannot be sure you will hit the target.  The complex way Wheely calculate fares (an E-Class is £6 + 50p per minute + £1.60 per mile) means that you can’t be certain what you’ll pay.  It is certainly worth a look, however.

My SPG points from the SPG amex card have left my amex account but not turned up in my marriot bonvoy yet – thoughts?

  • mutley says:

O/T I am due to visit client in Cornwall, (flying to Newquay) a friend of mine raves about the Pullman train service from Paddington, Anyone tried It?

  • berneslai says:

OT: Continuing the SPG Amex threads, I’ve just received my “30,000 points bonus” from my SPG card and they have transferred 1:1 to Bonvoy points (not the 3:2 that I assumed). I know this has been done to death on here before (I can’t find any of the old comments) but has anyone had any luck getting the correct conversion on the SPG points or shall I just leave it and carry on with my life?

@james don’t forget that cancelling cards will also have an effect on your credit record.

Alex W. That I wasn’t aware of, never even thought about it. So, if I cancel one of my cards that is ‘bad’ news ? If so, I’ll cut if up and just forget it.

    • Genghis says:

I wouldn’t worry. Cancelling every so often isn’t going to do much damage.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Depends if it’s one of your older accounts. The clarity card I’ve had for about 12 years is going no where for that exact reason.

        • Mr Dee says:

The only reason would be to keep the benefits of the card, cancelling a card can only be seen as beneficial as it means less credit utilisation IMO

  • Alex says:

where do I insert Wheely referral code – can anyone advise please?..

  • BJ says:

OT: there is 700 avios now available for a first Tesco online grocery shop via BA eee store.

    • Shoestring says:

      = new email address

      • BJ says:

Wonder if we could push more than one through each avios account.

      • BJ says:

        Purchase Conditions
Collect 700 Avios when you spend £45 on your first online Tesco shop. Avios will only be awarded if the first purchase is made via a desktop computer. No Avios will be awarded if you spend £44.99 or less. Avios will not be available if you are a Tesco Delivery Saver customer. Customers who have made an online grocery purchase with Tesco before will not be eligible for any Avios.

You will not receive Avios for any other purchases from Tesco.

Queries can only be investigated after 30 days from the date the purchase was made.

        • Grant says:

The stand out point for me here is that if you are a regular Tesco delivery customer and pay the monthly Delivery Saver fee, you can’t use that so would have to pay for delivery (presumably on top of the £45 min spend on groceries)

    • Grant says:

The small print in the ‘About’ section underneath notes the following:

“Remember your Clubcard points can be turned into Avios on every shop you make. £2.50 of Clubcard Vouchers can be changed into 700 Avios..”

I thought it was £2.50 = 600 Avios. Is this an error on BAs website (which, lets face it, would not be unusual) or have they increased the rate? The link to the Tesco page suggests its a(nother) BA IT error – Tesco still quoting £2.50 = 600 Avios

      • BJ says:

Just an error I would think. I am curious if their monitoring is sufficient to identify regular customers with anything other than email addresses.

  • Qwerty Bertie says:

OT: If taking a 2nd supplementary platinum card for a further fee of £170 per year, then cancelling a little while later, would that fee be refunded pro-rata?

    • Genghis says:

      Yes

      • Qwerty Bertie says:

Thanks. Contemplating getting two at once for a close friend and his wife, so they’ll have free access to Plaza Premium T5 on a family holiday, and free breakfast at a Hilton resort. Would then cancel a month or so after. Any flaws in the plan, other than the concept of unauthorised charges being made?

  • Charlie says:

OK i think that is right, have gone and booked.

And here’s my code incase anyone else hasn’t signed up: AGW8Q
