Blue Islands is a Channel Islands-based airline which operates as a Flybe franchise.  It has just announced a new Summer route from Jersey and Guernsey to Newquay.

Flights will operate from 3rd June to 31st August.

There will be three services per week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.  The plane will start in Guernsey and make a brief stopover in Jersey before continuing on to Cornwall.

Blue Islands Flybe Jersey to Newquay

Blue Islands has also recently announced Guernsey to London Southend and Guernsey to Liverpool which commence on 20th May and 21st May respectively, both operating as Flybe franchises and bookable on flybe.com.

Despite being franchised, you can book these Flybe routes with Avios.  A one-way from Guernsey to Newquay is 4,500 Avios plus just £5 of tax, although the costs of flying out of Newquay push up the taxes on a return trip to £39.

Your best option to maximise your miles when paying is American Express Preferred Rewards Gold.  This offers double points – 2 per £1 – when you when you book flight tickets directly with an airline.  Our review of Amex Gold is here.

  • Matt B says:

Finally got the Hilton offer on my BAPP, no offers at all in my gold after having it a month…

Had to make do with a measly 12% off my last hilton stay through Santander retail offers.

    • Peter K says:

I usually find it takes a month or more of building a card for offers to filter through. The only exception seems to be shop small.

  • Graeme says:

OT Does anyone use an ISA provider that accepts a debit card as payment?

My current provider only allows transfer via linked bank account.

  • Don says:

Surprised I don’t have any Hilton offer on our family 3x Gold and 3x sup.

    Had a few last year.

  • Craig says:

It give me a chance to try out the Hilton Bankside which I’ve been meaning to do for a while. One Hilton points booking in Manchester and one IHG for London cancelled to use this.

  • Dale says:

Query about Hilton bonus points and current promotions, ie the extra 2000 points per stay.

If you book a 2x points rate…does it also give you double the bonus points or just base points??

If so it would be well worth it!

    Thanks

“The Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc then on offer in BA First Class was spotted in Morrisons at £5 a bottle, two for £9.”

This is very misleading, £5 is for a HALF bottle
Majestic sell this wine for £9.49 per full bottle

    • TripRep says:

Same deal at Morrissons, like I said yesterday, I quite like the stuff.

      • TripRep says:

Tesco’s sometimes have VM for under £7

        • Louise says:

And Costco have 6 bottles for £40 reg

        • David P says:

Sainsbury’s currently have it for £5.81 per 750 mL bottle if you buy 6. Once you’ve stripped out the fixed costs at that price (duty, packaging, shipping, VAT etc.) the value of the fermented grape juice in the bottle will be around 60p. Even by BA’s standards, that’s not a premium product and Villa Maria shouldn’t be anywhere near a First wine list. And for what it’s worth, Sainsbury’s will still be making a profit at this price.

    • David P says:

I’ve just found the FT thread which is referred to in Jancis Robinson’s blog. It turns out that the Villa Maria sauvignon blanc served in First was from the Cellar Selection range. This is a couple of steps above the bog standard Villa Maria, although it’s still a million miles from what I’d call a premium product and it still shouldn’t be on a First wine list.

It retails around £10 per bottle if anyone’s interested.

  • lammy52 says:

Can somebody please clarify for me. I have booked flights using Avios from Rio to Manchester a little while ago and was charged £370 in taxes. I note that taxes are now £65 and was surprised as I thought that they would remain constant.Should that be the case, and if so, is it worth asking BA about the situation.
    Thanks.

    • TripRep says:

Give us the full breakdown Inc Class and YQ and we’ll tell you.

    • the_real_a says:

Agree full breakdown needed. But you are probably paying BA`s fee/profit/surcharge in this amount which are due on redemption tickets.

  • Craig mcewan says:

ROB, Your once great Blog is now less interesting than the daily mail comments section. Today Post after post of OT people dishing hate at others views… Been getting like this for months

    • The Lord says:

OT is usually where I learn the most, hear interesting stories etc

      • Lee says:

        Agreed

        • Russ says:

+1. Also offers we wouldn’t hear about if we all worked independently.

        • Cat says:

It’s normally brilliant, sorry for starting this with my “fingers crossed”. If I’d realised the can if worms I’d be opening, I wouldn’t have done it.

        • Grant says:

I also agree with this view. Today however has been somewhat of an exception after someone mentioned the B word.
