Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get a 25% bonus when you convert TopCashback money to Avios points

Cashback shopping site TopCashback is offering a 25% bonus this month if you convert your earnings to Avios.

Until 30th April, you will receive 1.25 Avios for every 1p of cashback you convert.

Be clear about the maths before you do this.  You are basically buying Avios at 0.8p each compared to taking the cash.

This IS a decent deal, and it would be hard to lose money on this basis given that HFP readers should be getting well over 1p per Avios when they redeem, but think it through.  Cash is flexible and not prone to sudden devaluation, Avios are not.

Yep I won’t keep any balance there, not so much because of the risk of them going bust -[though the merger talks with Quiiidco could mean various things…] – but because they have been known to swipe back confirmed, payable earnings for unknown reasons you can’t appeal – it happened to me a couple of times!

  • Doug M says:

Doesn’t this item need changing to the site that can’t be named? In all seriousness now it can, or?

  • Alex W says:

@harry we tend to only have 1 joint life policy at a time because you only can get the cash back once ever for each company, usually, unless you know one that will pay out multiple times??

  • CC says:

If your hesitating converting into avios double check your earnings as some companies ONLY allow payouts into avios so you might as well do them right now. John Lewis for example only allows avios payouts so will be converting my £65.

  • meta says:

The clawback of payable (about £200) happened to me once 2-3 years ago and after back and forth over couple of weeks, I got fed up and asked them for the address of their legal department. They came back quickly and said that it is now back to payable. Ever since then, no problems whatsover.

  • Nate1309 says:

OT, never used any of my hilton points before. Are redemption rooms fully refundable?

    • Nate1309 says:

also is 20000 points good value for a room that is €184?

      • Froggee says:

Q1. Yes except in very rare circumstances where it will be stated.

Q2. 20,000 points for a €184 room is amazing value and about twice as good a rate that most people on here would be happy to use them at.

      • RedEyeDonkey says:

Anything over 0.5c (0.38p) approx is above ‘par’ because you can buy HHonors points for 0.5p during 100% bonuses. The worst redemptions one sees tend to be on cheap rooms where you only get 0.4c (0.3p). And the best redemptions are when you have status getting one night free and they’re also waiving a resort fee when you can get some pretty nice higher values.

        You’re getting a whapping 1c/point (0.75p) which I’d consider a very good redemption.

    • Rob says:

Yes (although check the rules over trade shows, New Years Eve etc) – will match the rules on flexible cash rates for the same date.

    • Nate1309 says:

      Thanks all.

  • Grimz says:

OT, Can you self refer from Gold CC for Platinum?

  • Shoestring says:

@jek I’m not allowed to give recommendations but if you simply look for a provider giving £100 back on life insurance, it narrows it down

the provider is a middle man & offers different policy options from further insurance companies
