IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Summer promotion.

It is another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, although this time it is called “Make Every Stay Count”.

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 1st May and 31st August.

At present, there is a bug which seems to be stopping some people – including me – from registering.  You get a message saying that you are ineligible, but that seems unlikely given that ‘Accelerate’ offers are open to all.

I had no issues on my wife’s account.  Once I had registered my wife, she got the following targets:

10,000 bonus points for staying five nights

14,400 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands

5,600 bonus points for 2 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ stay

2,800 points for staying at two different IHG hotels

Unusually, there is no additional bonus for completing all or most of the separate targets.

This isn’t a bad deal for my wife.  The first, second and fifth ones cut across each other, so a total of five nights, which takes in three different brands and two different hotels, will trigger (10,000 + 14,400 + 2,800) 27,200 bonus points.

Based on my 0.4p valuation of an IHG Rewards Club point, that is worth £109 or (divided by 5 nights) £22 back per night.  This assumes she does exactly five nights across three brands.  It isn’t worth doing a mattress run to hit this, but if we can point a few nights in IHG’s direction over the next four months it will be worthwhile.

As usual with IHG promotions, existing stays will count and do not need to be rebooked.  The only exception in the past has been for any target you have which insists on booking via the IHG app.

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is OK.  My wife has a less generous target than she did in the spring, and of course I can’t even see my target yet.

Hilton Honors is offering ‘double base points’ as we wrote about here (you can register here).  If you do a lot of short, low cost stays then the new IHG offer may work out better, whilst Hilton might be better for short, expensive trips.  It is all down to your personal IHG Accelerate targets though.  We don’t yet know what Marriott Bonvoy will be offering for the Summer.

I strongly recommend signing up now given that the new IHG promotion is valid for stays from Wednesday night.  Even if you have no stays planned I would still register as 31st August is a long way away.

You can register for the new IHG Accelerate promotion here.

“We’re sorry, but you’re not eligible for this campaign.”

  • Peter K says:

I got the ineligible message, but the email came through saying I was registered. On my “offers” page it says I am signed up for it, but when I click on the link no targets show up…it’s basically a blank page. Go figure?!?

Same here and usually I get the targets in the emails but nothing on this one.

Maybe the promotions manager has “running a successful Accelerate Promotion” in his objectives for this year and he will lose his bonus for abysmal delivery. Don’t these companies test their software before going public?

Not that I really care as Spire IHG has little value compared to Hilton Diamond. Even Hilton Diamond is a complete guess what a Hilton is going to offer? Anything from a glorious spread of afternoon tea and evening buffet -Prague to Brighton Metropole which delivers just a smile from the front desk.

    • Jon says:

Same here. As it happens my Ambassador renewal is due tomorrow – wondering whether I should even bother. I think Hilton will be getting my business until/unless IHG stop being completely useless (or should that be, ahem, pointless?).

Also getting seriously fed up of “Hotel bill not available – The ability to access your hotel bill is not supported by…” in my online account.

Don’t think I’ll be hitting any of those to be honest.

57,100 Your Achievement Bonus (Complete 5 of the 5 offers and earn (an additional) 57,100 bonus points.)

I have a stay at a Crowne Plaza for 6 nights in a fortnight, so starting to slowly chip away at some of these requirements…!

  • Charlotte owen says:

My husband gets double points on his second stay up to a max of 40000 points. He only stays maybe 5 nights a quarter.
Mine is 4000 for 4 or more consecutive nights.
    8400 for two brands
6600 for 2 bonus point nights
And 19000 extra for completing all three. This makes £38000points in total.
A total of 5 or more probably 6 nights as the extra point nights can be much more expensive will complete it.

  • Crafty says:

Blank page for me… booking my next 4 weeks’ stays tonight… so I guess IHG will miss out.

Radisson sent me an offer of 40,000 points for 4 nights (targeted), so they will be a beneficiary.

  • Brian W says:

29,900k for me across 4 challenges, no bonus for completing 3 of 4 or 4 of 4 etc.

I’ve completed the last two promo’s and this shows that IHG don’t value my previous custom as this is pitiful compared to others that are easier to achieve and offering 114k etc.

Hilton have my 30 odd nights secured for this qtr without question.

  • PaulW says:

My (Spire Elite) bonus point promotion seems impossible. I have to book 4 times using my corporate rate. The thing is that I don’t work for a corporation or have a corporate rate.

So they are setting impossible targets. Very disappointing. Any ideas about this one?

    • Dr Tom says:

I’ve had that three or four times now and it’s impossible.
The only time I got it to post was when I booked an Intercontinental on a FHR rate, which triggered the bonus.

    • Charlieface says:

      Mastercard rate maybe?
