IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Summer promotion.

It is another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, although this time it is called “Make Every Stay Count”.

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 1st May and 31st August.

At present, there is a bug which seems to be stopping some people – including me – from registering.  You get a message saying that you are ineligible, but that seems unlikely given that ‘Accelerate’ offers are open to all.

I had no issues on my wife’s account.  Once I had registered my wife, she got the following targets:

10,000 bonus points for staying five nights

14,400 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands

5,600 bonus points for 2 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ stay

2,800 points for staying at two different IHG hotels

Unusually, there is no additional bonus for completing all or most of the separate targets.

This isn’t a bad deal for my wife.  The first, second and fifth ones cut across each other, so a total of five nights, which takes in three different brands and two different hotels, will trigger (10,000 + 14,400 + 2,800) 27,200 bonus points.

Based on my 0.4p valuation of an IHG Rewards Club point, that is worth £109 or (divided by 5 nights) £22 back per night.  This assumes she does exactly five nights across three brands.  It isn’t worth doing a mattress run to hit this, but if we can point a few nights in IHG’s direction over the next four months it will be worthwhile.

As usual with IHG promotions, existing stays will count and do not need to be rebooked.  The only exception in the past has been for any target you have which insists on booking via the IHG app.

IHG Rewards Club Accelerate Make Every Stay Count bonus points promotion

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is OK.  My wife has a less generous target than she did in the Spring, and of course I can’t even see my target yet.

Hilton Honors is offering ‘double base points’ as we wrote about here (you can register here).  If you do a lot of short, low cost stays then the new IHG offer may work out better, whilst Hilton might be better for short, expensive trips.  It is all down to your personal IHG Accelerate targets though.  We don’t yet know what Marriott Bonvoy will be offering for the Summer.

I strongly recommend signing up now given that the new IHG promotion is valid for stays from Wednesday night.  Even if you have no stays planned I would still register as 31st August is a long way away.

You can register for the new IHG Accelerate promotion here.

  • Hamilton says:

I didn’t get any message about not being eligible, but I got just one earning possibility “Earn double points on every stay, starting with your second stay, up to 40,000 bonus points.” Maybe an anomaly or maybe that is the way IHG is going, similar to other chains. But it’s clear from what Rob posted that some people are still getting the more usual kind of offers seen with Accelerate in the past, so it’s a bit odd.

    • Tom says:

Same for me. Which means another Accelerate period will pass by without me putting any of my stays through IHG.

  • David says:

Has anyone advised IHG of the registration issues, and enquired if all accounts will be eligible? I have noted that IHG typically send out an email advertising each new promotion a few days after it appears one here, so perhaps this one just isn’t quite ready for registration yet?

    • David says:

They are now acknowledging people on twitter – confirming there are known issues with registration which they hope to fix for the start date.

      • Lady London says:

*that start date being listed in the promotion as 29th April. In other words, yesterday.

I’d make a cheap joke about may be they have hired some of British Airways’s ex – IT staff but I’m just too tired.

    • Alex Sm says:

I asked above if Rob is willing to enquire with them on our behalf and give us an update – perhaps this will be more efficient and less annoying than us asking the same thing individually

      • Rob says:

They know there is a problem, but there are no Rewards Club staff in the UK office unfortunately.

  • Lady London says:

Not eligible yesterday evening. Then each time when clicking through, sometimes it lets me sign in sometimes not. but nothing ever shows. the screen does not change IHG’s proposed offer does not come up.

I did manage to log in then click offers and there is definitely an Accelerate offer there. Same result (Nada) when clicking though.

Oh, and an offer that was not emailed to me, for 3000 points that was sent about 6 weeks before my birthday. I could have combined that with one of the previous Accelerate targets and got about 8,000 points for a night or two. I had no idea it was there. I had stopped logging in to IHG after the last two sets of Accelerate targets must have been meant for someone who stays 366 nights a year, So I missed it.

As and when this Accelerate offer becomes visible to so many of us, it had better be pretty darn good to make up for this rubbish experience. What a launch!

    • Alex Sm says:

This really depends… after a couple of unrealistic quarterly targets I got a decent set in Q1 2019 – four relatively easy targets which my partner and I covered by three stays (5 nights in total). All in London and all real (we are against mattress runs as they are lazy and unethical). 91,000 points for 335 pounds net spend – not bad!

  • Dermott Beverley says:

Truly garbage….Poor show IHG, not impressed /sigh

  • Crafty says:

    Is this still not fixed?!

  • Gary says:

    Another data point

    77,100 points opportunity:

    16,000 – stay 8 night(s) and earn 16,000 bonus points
12,000 – stay at 5 brands and get 12,000 bonus points
    16,800 – stay at 6 IHG® hotel(s) and earn 16,800 bonus points
6,600 – book 2 Bonus Points Package stay(s) and get to your next reward faster

BONUS: 25,700 – Complete 4 of the 4 offers and earn (an additional) 25,700 bonus points

  • Ian M says:

Still showing that I’m not eligible for the offer. Shame, I’ve earned a decent amount of points with Accelerate over the last few offers. Really not a fan of IHG though, I’m just a sucker for a good promotion! So it’s probably for the best, I’ll stick with Hilton and Marriott, at least they give decent elite member benefits

  • Matt says:

My offer has appeared now. All I got was double points starting from second stay (capped at 40k bonus).

    • Lyn says:

My husband’s offers have been filled in this morning (they were still blank earlier). But I am still ineligible.

    • DL says:

Exactly the same for me ! Double points from 2nd stay.. hardly exciting !

      • john says:

        +1

        “Double Your Stay
Earn double points on every stay, starting with your second stay, up to 40,000 bonus points. Terms”

That’s the only one. Although I haven’t stayed with IHG for a while so that might be while.

Although the text above that is a bit misleading…

        “Earn 40,000 total bonus points.
Complete all of your Accelerate offers and earn 40,000 total bonus points.”

That kind of implies I could stay once and get the 40K but clearly the text underneath says otherwise.
