British Airways and The Economist have brought back their special offer for taking out a subscription. It is the same big Avios bonus that was offered in January – up to 25,200 points – but the subscription costs have gone up by 20%.

As you can see at this link, you can earn up to 25,200 Avios with a new subscription.

Here are the various variations on offer if you are a UK resident:

Print only or digital only:

1 year: £179 with 10,200 Avios (1.75p per Avios)

2 years: £319 with 16,200 Avios (1.96p per Avios)

3 years: £429 with 22,200 Avios (1.93p per Avios)

Print and digital:

1 year: £215 with 13,200 Avios (1.62p per Avios)

2 years: £389 with 19,200 Avios (2.02p per Avios)

3 years: £519 with 25,200 Avios (2.05p per Avios)

Earn Avios with The Economist

Subscribing to The Economist no longer makes sense just for the Avios bonus. As you can see above, the earning rates are poor and in all cases higher than the 1.6p per Avios when buying directly from BA.

As before, however, there are some better deals when looking at other countries. A print or digital only subscription for a Canadian resident snags you 16,200 Avios at 1.25p per point. Print and digital is slightly higher at 1.32p per Avios, and you could enjoy the digital copy for yourself.

Pricing in the Eurozone is unfortunately poorer than in the UK, with 2.3p per Avios on print-only subscriptions in Belgium, France and Germany.

As always, if you are self-employed you may be happy writing off the subscription cost as a business expense which would sharply reduce your price per Avios.
