American Express will have a cardmember lounge at Wimbledon. How can you get in?

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

American Express has teamed up with Wimbledon to offer a variety of amenities during the 2019 tournament, which starts on Monday.

This includes a members lounge. You can see the details on the Wimbledon website here.

Visit the American Express Wimbledon Cardmember Lounge

The biggest benefit is the members lounge, located in the Southern Village by Court 3.

Any American Express cardholder can enter the lounge, irrespective of the country where their card was issued.

Each cardholder can take up to two guests into the lounge.

The American Express Fan Experience

Open to everyone who attends the Championships – no Amex card required – the Amex-sponsored fan zone promises hammocks, phone charging stations, a complementary custom-postcard station as well as a VR challenge called ‘Champions Rally’ that includes Andy Murray.

Free radios

Amex will also be providing complimentary branded radios so you can get live updates from Centre Court, No.1 Court or the Wimbledon Radio channel wherever you are in the grounds.  These are ‘while supplies last’ so you may have to be quick one of these.   These are only available to cardholders.

An exclusive £20 cashback offer

There’s also a special cashback offer for purchases on site.  If you spend £120 or more in the grounds between 1st and the 14th July you’ll get £20 back.  You can only get the cashback once.

Annoyingly, you must register for this offer on site at either the Amex lounge or the Amex Tennis Fan Experience.  You CANNOT register online.

According to the terms and conditions, “qualifying spend may be made in single or multiple purchases on enrolled Card.”  Supplementary card holders appear to be able to enrol separately and double up on the cashback via their own card.

Importantly, many non-UK American Express cards qualify for the cashback – it is NOT restricted to UK cardholders:

“An eligible Card means a valid American Express Consumer or Small Business credit or charge Card issued in one of the Eligible Markets: UK, US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, India, Italy, Singapore, Sweden, Spain, Japan.”

Do note though that:

“Corporate Cards, Pre-Paid Cards, and Lloyds Bank-issued Cards are not eligible.”

Conclusion

If you’re heading to Wimbledon this is a new set of benefits to enjoy. American Express has done some great pop-up lounges in the past (including the Christmas ones in Covent Garden and at the Frieze Art Fair) so this could be an excellent place to relax when you’re not watching a match.

    complimentary…
    sigh…

  • Mike G says:

As I was on hfp I read “radios” like “Avios”! It took me a couple of moments to figure out it wasn’t done kind of tennis-related loyalty point.

I am not a smart man.

  • jamie says:

Another hfp article that ensures the facility will be packed rather than relaxing. Having said that the lounge is identified in the guide that comes with tickets so most people going will know about it anyway.

    • Alex M says:

You can always choose not to go to the lounge and make it bit more relaxing for others 🙂

    • Combatjohnny says:

I’m guessing the large campaign of ads of Facebook probably will encourage more people than HFP

      • Paul says:

The queue to get in is always like some sort of middle class refugee camp and best avoided – this facility from the sound of the whingeing already! 🙂

    • TGLoyalty says:

Considering you need a ticket for Wimbledon then an AMEX unless it’s tiny I don’t think HFP will make the difference.

With all of these things at event it’s usually just a nice place to get some water or a coffee

    • Rob says:

That will teach me …. could have had this article up 6 weeks ago if I’d bothered to read one of the 15 copies of the debenture holders version I was sent 🙂

      • Sundar says:

@Rob – Can these Debentures be bought on CC ? Amex ?
I do see a value proposition for resale here(a small profit atleast) but the money locked up for 2-5 years sometimes is a major concern.

    • Andy says:

If the lounge is anything like the one at the US Open Tennis it will be far too small and rammed with people such that it was an unpleasant experience.

  • N says:

The Amex “lounge” at All Points East was a s*itshow, I wonder if this will be similar

  • Rhys says:

    Yes

  • Rob says:

Interesting. Those normally go on sale at 9am for the following day to the general public, for Centre and No 3. No-one knows about this, which is why they always stand in the queue ….

  • SG says:

    Thank you for this Shoestring
    Did not know about it,brilliant!
It seems that sale opens 24 hours before!

  • Dominic Montgomery says:

Slightly OT. The free lounge passes you get for amex gold on the first year, are they transferable to other travellers at all? Specifically LBA lounges.
They will go to waste as I’ve already had access this year to lounges by flying club world.
I know others traveling this summer that could use them.

    • Rob says:

      No

    • Shoestring says:

There are people who just get surname (no first name) on Amex & PP cards…they don’t have the same problem if other family members share the surname…
