The new Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Heathrow Terminal 2 and T3 is open

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The new Hilton Garden Inn, which is the first hotel directly connected to Terminals 2 and 3 at Heathrow Airport, opened last night.

It was touch and go, apparently.  Bookings for the previous four days had been cancelled at short notice, and guests who checked in yesterday afternoon were told that they would need to leave again if a certain permit was not received by the evening (it was).

Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow Terminal 2 and 3

I’ve never been too sure what a Hilton Garden Inn is meant to be, as opposed to a standard Hilton or DoubleTree.  They price below a Hilton and I can see weekend nights at this hotel as low as £80 during August, which is decent value for a hotel which links to the terminals.

The owner is Arora Group, which also owns the Sofitel at Terminal 5 and the new Crowne Plaza / Holiday Inn Express attached to Terminal 4 which I rate highly (my Crowne Plaza Terminal 4 review is here, my Holiday Inn Express Terminal 4 review is here).

The Hilton Garden Inn website is here if you want to find out more.

  • NigelthePensioner says:

“Uber is one of the few redemption partners where you get a genuine 3x face value”

Also, Two Together rail cards and, I assume, Seniors and all the other ones that cost £30 per annum are available with just £10 worth of Tesco CC vouchers. This makes them incredible value for booking off peak intercity rail travel (or even local town to town fares) when such travel comes out of ones own taxed pension!

    • Phil says:

Can’t get the network railcard which is always frustrating as every other railcard is there. I always find a gold season ticket holder to get me one for £10 (used to be £1!) 🙂

    • Jonty says:

Railcards are not really a clean 3x value as there are multiple offers throughout the year with a few quid off

      • Roger* says:

        Oh yes, they are!

My pass went from £20 to £7-worth of points, The reduction of 65% is rather more than ‘a few quid off.’

        • Genghis says:

I can often get my two together card for £27 so £10 of Tesco points = 2.7x, not a clean 3x

  • Optimus Prime says:

Those long overnight stopovers really put me off…

Speaking of Qatar fares – what’s a good price for an ex-EU flight to New Zealand?

I know Manchester-Auckland was less than £1400 once…likely to happen again?

    • BJ says:

+1, even if it’s short I don’t see anything QR has to offer as worth losing sleep over. Long haul direct is all I want to do exEU with no more than 1 connection from the UK.

      • Matt says:

I think there fares were pulled yesterday. I could be wrong but I can’t find anything.

      • Shoestring says:

changing planes in Doha gives you 560 TPs, though

        • Optimus Prime says:

I know Qatar has a far better product but if anyone is thinking of booking LAX/LAS/SFO in the current BA sale, it’s worth mentioning that a stopover in JFK will get you 560 points. Some flights even have outbound LHR-JFK in F for just £200 more, so that’s 630 TP’s and I think you’re Silver already because the AA domestic flights will have a BA codeshare?

The problem is you won’t have a flat-bed in the domestic leg unless you go to LAX.

          • Jonathan says:

You’ll get a flat bed to SFO as well. The business seats are 2-2 so best if a couple. If I was flying to LAS & had time on my hands I’d do a second change in LAX so 40+140+140+40 x 2 =720 or pretty much half way to Gold.

    • Paul says:

You can usually get to AKL for around £2000 from Northern Europe/Scandinavia. Whilst not the £1450 of last year, it’s available nearly all year, not required 2 travelling together etc. And for essentially 48hrs onboard, in a very nice environment, it’s still a bit of a bargain even at that price.

    • Rob says:

Unlikely. I would say be prepared to spend £1999 Max and jump in as soon as a deal appears at that level.

      • Optimus Prime says:

Okay – I’ve found one around £2300, I guess I should wait? It’s £2000 with Swiss/Lufti but would be interested in the TP’s in this case…

  • Harry Hv says:

Your reckon the “Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow T2-T3” really is connected to T2 and T3? I’ll believe it when I see it, considering the “Hilton Heathrow Terminal 5” is actually located in Slough.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

It’s in Poyle, really – trust me as someone who stays there when needing to be in Slough, it’s not that close to Slough either at rush hour !

The T5 HiX on the other hand…

And be fair to Aurora, their Heathrow airport hotels are all genuinely linked…

      • Chrisasaurus says:

        OT-

PayPal debit card open for applications again(0.5% rewards, can link debit card to curve-like recharging and possibly can link curve itself for super double dip)

PayPal business account required, caveat emptor etc

    • Phil says:

It couldn’t be more central to T2/3 if it tried.
Drove past it on a pickup a few weeks back. Been waiting for this one to open since xmas

      • Dev says:

Greetings from LHR T5 CCR. Clear views of the top of the Hilton Garden Inn Upper floors looking east from the balcony of CCR. Beautiful day, so it’s a bit of a shame that I’m flying out to a destination where heavy rain is the order of the day / month! Enjoying breakfast before I wander into the World Duty Free shop and then to one of the satellite terminals to board my flight.

    • John says:

It is connected to T2, and thus 10 minutes walk from T3.

    • Rob says:

You can see it in the picture ….!

      • Doreen says:

Looking forward to an early review Rob/Rhys … particularly to know if the mattresses come from the usual Hilton UK supplier (incredibly firm) or if Arora are using something similar to the two airport Sofitels.

I had to quit Hilton about 10 years ago when they started with their rock hard brand – even in the Conrad (formerly IC) I had to ask for two extra duvets to lie on (each doubled!)

  • Bill says:

Hotels.com and Railcards are the other two transfers where you get 3:1. Real value. Not just Uber

  • BJ says:

OT: Anybody else come back from BKK on BA10 yesterday? A great day for op-up across all cabins with a full flight and the usual 3 class aircraft being replaced by 4 class metal 🙂 Airplane seemed to be ‘falling apart’ though with cabin crew being frustrated with multiple issues.

    • Polly says:

      BJ
      Did you get upgraded?

      • BJ says:

Yes, both my partner and I, First seats but obviously still business service as BKK not been set up for F since the demise of that particular kangaroo route. I’m guessing most WTP probably got CW which would be the best result.

        • Polly says:

Still better than climbing over someone to the loo..comfy flight then..nice treat.

  • ee says:

Don’t book the QR flights based on them being any particular metal. We are doing ARN-HKG next week and noticed our ARN leg on a 787 has changed to Qsuites A350. Reading around people who have monitored more closely have seen multiple equipment changes, so who knows exactly what we will fly on. At least it won’t be 737MAX!

    • TGLoyalty says:

Yep QR are known for their equipment changes

Their A350 looked like a great long haul craft the last time I was on it (in economy on a short haul ME connection)

    • Polly says:

Yes our Nov Asia flts now gone from 3 x 350 q suites to 1. Still ok tho as not got 2 2 2. Still have our 2 middle seats on each change. Keeping an eye on things tho. But good value nevertheless 1250pp Arn Sin.

    • BJ says:

I saw on OMAAT last week that FAA has highlighted a new issue with the 737MAX they need to have fixed. Not sure if it was mentioned here on HFP.

      • Polly says:

Yes, and it’s causing huge scheduling headaches for those airlines without their planes atm. Apparently, a further year delay in returning to safe operational standards.
Plus big QC issues in N Carolina base too. As someone said lately ” if it’s Max Boeing, l ain’t flying”
        Who knows…

        • BJ says:

The thing that troubles me is that aircraft often get certified without picking up these issues in the first place. Jet airlines are modern marvels but the problems Boeing has had with new models is persistently concerning. Hopefully the new 777 variants will be trouble-free.

          • Polly says:

But remember, the FAA allowed Boeing to self certify standards and sign offs! Incredibly stupid.

        • AJA says:

I don’t trust that aircraft. It’s Boeing’s Ratners moment ( I sell crap). Or an aviation take on it, it’s their Comet.

I like the slogan but a more poetic take I heard is “If it’s Max Boeing, I ain’t going!” And that applies to me.

          • AJA says:

As my dad used to say: Better to arrive late than dead on time!

          • Polly says:

Or arrive late, rather than be “the late”! Sorry….

  • Roberto says:

Slightly tangential.. hilton points for a dozen or so lyft rides posted effortlessly the same day over the last week or so..

    Thumbs up..

    • thehornets says:

Roberto – Can you sign up to Lyft with a UK issued card? For some reason, I thought it was US only.
      Thanks!

      • Optimus Prime says:

I have used Lloyds Amex with Lyft when in the US without a problem.

      • Roberto says:

        Used my curve..
        Linked to my hilton.
        So double dipped. 🙂
The points from lyft hit within hours of the rides.

    • Craig says:

I’ve set myself an alert to set this up just before our next States trip.

  • nigel whitehouse says:

just tried the same QR date search for October; the cheapest i can see is SEK 24,062, that’s >£ 2,000. and the return flight is 23h50m, and you have to get to Stockholm. I’m guessing there is not many flights at the lowest price and they have already gone ?
