IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) has just published its new list of heavily discounted PointBreaks redemptions.

You can book these hotels for stays until 31st January.

These hotels are bookable NOW via Popular hotels will use up their allocation of reduced price rooms quickly, so book soon if you are interested. As with all IHG Rewards Club reward nights, you can cancel without penalty at any time and get your points back.

This list is shorter than the previous one and, from a European point of view, weaker.  As always, however, if there are good hotels in places where you want to go then you’re onto a winner.

If you try to book one of these hotels on Tuesday morning for the period to 31st January and it is showing the full points price, this means that the hotel has sold out of its allocation of PointBreaks nights.

What are the PointBreaks highlights?

Not surprisingly the better deals are at the 15,000 points level.

The UK hotels are a bit of an odd mix, although Gatwick is there.  Crowne Plaza’s in Geneva and Istanbul are the pick of the European list.  Holiday Inn Dubai Festival City which we wrote about here is a good deal given it is peak tourist season.  InterContinental Johannesburg which we reviewed here is also on the list.

My pic of the 10,000 point redemptions is Holiday Inn London – Heathrow Bath Road.  Here is our review and it is pictured below.  It is a brand new hotel and impressive.

For once, there are some good options in Australia and New Zealand.  Japan is also well represented.

How to book a PointBreaks room

PointBreaks availability is limited so book ASAP if you are interested.

You can book via the IHG PointBreaks page here or via the standard booking page here.

You are able to book these hotels for dates up to 31st January.

If you are trying to book a reward night for a date up to 31st January and it is pricing at the full rate, the hotel has sold its allocation of PointBreaks nights.

Staybridge Suites PointBreaks

You allowed a maximum of two bookings per individual hotel. Each booking can be for as many nights as you want. Remember that if you attempt to amend your booking later by dropping a night or two the whole booking may reprice at the full rate.

  1. Can somebody help me, I booked the HIX Amsterdam I have a curve card and a IHG plat. I was worried if I booked via the curve to avoid FX that I wouldn’t get the extra points for charging it back to my IHG so I charged it directly to my IHG. Was I wrong ? If I paid with my curve charging to my IHG would I have avoided FX and still got extra points for?

    • No extra points – but the points are not worth the extra 3% you paid.

      • Interesting….On the topic of curve, if you withdraw your daily limit of £200 cash in Europe for euros, do you avoid FX fees on that as well ? Or just the same as your normal bank debit card.

  2. IHG Bits…

I’m looking at a stay in Orlando in January and considering their “Allure” restort off International Drive. They have some interesting options in their “offers” for deals including points. The structure is all a bit odd though. With 1000 point deals costing more than 2000 point deals and 3000 point deals costing the same as 2000 point deals.

So I’m essentially looking at paying £600 for 6 nights, and earning 18,000 offer points, and quad base points or 24,000 on stay plus 600 Gold bonus points. There’s bound to be a Accelerate offer in January too.

42,600 points for 6 nights in a $100 a night hotel is quite decent isn’t it?

    • Lady London says:

Not bad :-). IIRC the recent Accelerator offers did not cover January stay dates?

      • But aren’t there like two Accelerate promotions running in parallel but with slightly different dates? In my case, my Summer Accelerate promo covered 1 july – 31st october. I’m not sure what is happening AFTER october 31, whether I’ll get a new promo or what.

        • Wasn’t that in recognition for the screwup earlier this year when they subsequently launched a separate accelerate for the affected people only? I cannot recall if some people got to register for both.

          • No, you cannot register for both. I cannot register for the current Accelerate autumn promo either.

    • All depends on the value you realise using those points.

  3. Fantastic, for once the stars align and I have bagged a night at the Intercontinental Jo’burg after my safari and before flying home, thanks as ever, Rob

    • ThinkSquare says:

Fantastic, for once the stars align and I have bagged a night at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Page, Arizona. Not quite the same league as an Intercontental, but every little helps 🙂

      • Excellent for the Upper / Lower Anthelope canyons. Some time in Lake Powell as well. Grand Canyon is not far away.

      • We did 3 nights there in May and paid full points for it as it was expensive for cash, we dId a boat trip on Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, full day float experience on Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend. Our tour of Antelope Canyon was cancelled due to heavy rain and flash flood 1 hr before our slot. We booked the peak slot 6 mths out and we gutted to miss this tour – was going to be one of the highlights of our trip. Go to Big Johns for delicious BBQ ribs and pulled pork!

    • Excellent, lucky you!

  4. Excellent timing. Booked 2 nights in Istanbul for mid Dec for my positioning J flight on SQ to KUL for 49k KrisFlyer miles. Couldnt decide between the CP Old city or the Harbiye. So booked both and will cancel one later. Thanks Rob!

  5. Thanks Rob, this came in handy as I was looking to book a couple of nights at the CP Haifa and was debating between a cash booking and redemption. This made it easy for me!

    • When it comes to Israel, there is no debate – points only as cash prices are disproportionally high

      • Yes you’re probably right. CP Haifa usually sells for 30k a night which is pretty decent, but the CP Eilat and Jerusalem (both currently being renovated) are a bargain at 20k points a might.

  6. Just booked Tampa, close to Busch Gardens
