Marriott Bonvoy is offering tickets to the England v Ireland Six Nations rugby match on 23rd February.

There are two options.  The first offers:

You and a guest can attend the at the Six Nations Championship, and watch the England vs Ireland rugby match from a private balcony at Twickenham Stadium. Your match-time beverage package includes beer, wine and soft drinks until one hour after the final whistle. Before the match starts, go to a meet and greet and have a three-course lunch with English rugby legend Chris Robshaw, and take full advantage of your match day accreditations to experience that day’s programs.

Free tickets England v Ireland

There are four packages, each with two tickets.  They have seen little interest so far, with pricing running from 50,000 points (starting bid) to 64,500 points.  Given that I value a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p, this is excellent value.

You can bid here.

The second package is the same but includes a night AFTER the game in the Twickenham Marriott hotel.  There is only bid so far at 75,000 Bonvoy points, which is the minimum bid allowed.  You can bid here.

O/T, Will be going through LHR T3 soon along with travel companions who have Dragonpass lounge access. Just got Dufry Plat, thanks Shoestring, so was going to purchase lounge pass to join them but which lounge is the better one. Believe they can use No 1 or Aspire. On our return from JNB anyone any idea of best lounge there using Dragonpass.
    TIA

    • Shoestring says:

these days you nearly always need to reserve (£5 on their site) which means No1

No1 is probs the better lounge in any case

if you don’t reserve, yes you can take pot luck but I’ve been told no room at the inn enough times to now always prefer the £5 & certainty

if you were travelling at a really early or late time, you might be OK without reserving

  • S says:

O/T: Billhop – I’ve read that you can email them to negotiate lower rate for large transaction. How low do they go?

    • Peter K says:

On a relatively small amount (£2500ish), they gave no discount for Amex and Visa/MC was down to 2%

  • Henry says:

Off topic just seen a rumour that Ba could be looking to launch some long haul routes from Manchester in the near future.
Would be fabulous if it turned out to be true .

    • Shoestring says:

anything that reduces the chance of hearing those dulcet Manc tones when I use LHR must be a good thing 🙂

      • Henry says:

I concur I also wouldn’t have to put up with anymore of that southern fairy lingo again😜

    • Anna says:

OMG OMG OMG (in a Mancunian accent, obviously) 🤞🤞🤞

      Source of rumours, please?

      • Anna says:

Found the article now – come on Rob!

        • Henry says:

The article reasoning does sort of make sense.

I’m sure Ba would want to stop Virgin becoming dominant in the North and its much easier to act early when your oppenant is weak rather than late in the art of war.

        • Freddy says:

Has BA just woken up now

        • Shoestring says:

BA has just been focused on a strategic approach – forget talk of hub & spoke, it was just ‘Heathrow first & foremost means we can be most efficient’ – so other airports & their opportunities were ignored, which is understandable when you don’t have enough planes & crews for Heathrow anyway

BA’s financial results bear out this strategic approach

maybe now they are anticipating more capacity (in terms of planes & crews) – so might expand a bit at the next best UK opportunity/ airport

      • Doug M says:

But what happens when the spoiler works? How are Oakland, Fort Lauderdale and I’ve forgotten doing now.

        • Rob says:

          Closed.

BA has no spare aircraft, which is the fault in this story. It would need to stop retiring 747s and the oldest 777s.

It also benefits BA if VS uses its fleet in MAN instead of adding capacity in London – which is the only Plan B if MAN routes close.

          • Anna says:

There were quite a few Thomas Cook planes parked at MAN when I was there last month…

        • Lady London says:

          +1.

  • Benilyn says:

OT: Looking to book car for 2 nights in AUH, really after cheap as possible. Any codes people can share? Many thanks.

    • Lady London says:

Do people still use autoslash for car hire?

    • Clive says:

      Have you tried travelsupermarket?

      • Rob says:

You know taxis are effectively free in the UAE? When I was in Ras in October is was literally £1 to the mall, each way. Given the low quality and high speed of local drivers there is no reason for a car AT ALL.

  • Andrew says:

    Yes and No.

It was there for years called “InStore”, suddenly you couldn’t update your cards, then it disappeared completely in June last year. It was good for Avios from Waitrose, Costa and a few othersl. It’s now been rebranded as “Collect on Card”, the options are pretty poor – 10 Avios per £1 at Odeon isn’t so bad though.

There are various schemes that offer money, points or phone credit when pre-registering cards.

    Key ones are:-

NextJump(employee schemes) – usually good for Waitrose, Morrisons & Matalan
Virgin – usually good for Waitrose and a few others
Airtime Rewards – New and a very wide range.

I’ve registered with all 4 schemes and play roulette with the returns, you never know under which scheme you’ll get the return – sometimes more than one. Only Virgin & BA register Amex cards at the moment.
