Frankfurt Airport gains a Marriott hotel but loses part of a Sheraton

If you need an overnight stay at Frankfurt Airport soon, you now have an additional hotel choice if you want something connected to the terminals.

In an intriguing move, the 1,008 room Sheraton Frankfurt Airport Hotel has been split in two.

It now comprises a (still not exactly modest) 779 room Sheraton hotel plus a 233 room Marriott hotel.

Sheraton Frankfurt Airport

What is odd, at least to me, is that I struggle to tell the difference between Sheraton and Marriott.  Both brands – which were under separate ownership until two years ago, remember – are stereotypically known for their relatively dull four-star business hotels, appealing to equally dull middle management types.

Following the Starwood acquisition, Marriott has 29 brands it could have used on the ‘new’ hotel.  What was the point of picking one with identical brand characteristics to the rest of the building?

Here is a Sheraton bedroom, for example, but would you really have been surprised if I said it was from the Marriott side?

Both hotels share dining, conference and fitness facilities.  A club lounge is under construction on the Sheraton side whilst the Marriott already has one.

In terms of pricing ….. last night the Sheraton was €200 vs €254 for the Marriott.  Looking at a Saturday night later in February, the Sheraton is €110 vs €130 for the Marriott.  The Marriott is therefore seen as ‘superior’ in some ways, although both have redone rooms.

If you have Platinum Elite status or higher in Marriott Bonvoy, you may prefer to pay the extra for the Marriott in order to get lounge access.

The Sheraton Frankfurt Airport website is here whilst the Marriott Frankfurt Airport website is here.

    @Shoestring
For some reason, the National status match page is working now – just enrolled and I am National Executive Elite. I have emailed Hertz to ask to be status matched to Hertz President’s Circle. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a nice upgrade for my Tasmania road trip! I owe you a beer or three at the next party.

    • Shoestring says:

Europcar status gives you a free weekend rental after 3 rentals, so potentially worth getting

      • Harry T says:

Is that just with their top tier status?

        • Shoestring says:

no – Privilege Club, pretty low

The Privilege Program offers members four (4) tier levels based on the number of rentals or rental days with Europcar over a period of 2 years (24 months).
The program tier levels are Privilege Club, Privilege Executive, Privilege Elite and Privilege Elite VIP.

Yes, chaps on BT worrying about their Chinese suppliers, and not being able to get stuff made, delivered, exported etc…based in HKG, so quite worrisome all round.

  • Russ says:

Have, or should I say had, flights to China and HK this month. The traveling world’s getting smaller and wife’s dithering about flying to the middle east and asia’s out of the question for the foreseeable. It’s only early February and all we need is something going silly State’s side and work is going to dry up if can’t meet clients. On the plus side I can see hotels and flights getting cheaper 🙂

    • TGLoyalty says:

Not if you’re all holidaying in Europe 😬

Asia will be though for the adventurous

  • Optimus Prime says:

Great competition, we’re in New Zealand at the moment having travelled with QR from Oslo.

BTW how long does the flight take to be credited to your BAEC account?

    • TGLoyalty says:

If I remember correctly if the flight is prior to Sunday you get them by Wednesday if not the following Wednesday. Why I missed out on visiting the first lounges in HK a year or so ago.

    • Polly says:

They credit them weekly…we are still in se Asia, little Paris here atm. Apart from 500 Chinese who couldn’t leave Bali yesterday, now staying on for another month. Tourism v slow here, so a boost for Bali it seems.
So sad about Dr Li dying tho, what a hero.

OT: CX flights to/from LGW amongst many flights the airline has suspended through 28 March.
