A new wave of countries have banned foreign visitors, including UK citizens, in the last few hours due to coronavirus:

Coronavirus in Poland

Poland will close its border on 15th March.  This will be for an initial 10 day period but with provision for extensions.

Only Polish citizens will be allowed to enter the country.  However, this will only be permitted if they enter quarantine for 14 days.

Coronavirus in Denmark

Denmark will close its borders on Saturday to all non-residents.  This will last until at least 13th April.

Coronavirus in Denmark

Coronavirus in Slovakia

Slovakia will close its borders today.  The international airports at Bratislava, Kosice and Poprad will close.  This will also apply to Slovak citizens returning from abroad unless they are prepared to enter two weeks of quarantine.

Coronavirus in Ukraine

Ukraine will block all foreign nationals from entering the country for two weeks from Sunday.

Foreign Office guidance here.

And in Thailand …..

Thailand has brought in a complex system for UK residents which, if you choose to travel, will restrict your travel in the country and require you to report your movements and undergo regular checks.  You should undertake your own research on this as, on first glance, it is too complex to summarise here.

All this and yet I’m sitting on a plane in a window seat with an empty aisle seat but the middle seat passenger isn’t moving over….?.? Even with me over dramatically coughing!

  • Boi says:

Next week we are due to fly back Toronto-Ams-LBA. If Netherlands closes its doors would they reroute us with another carrier or what are our options?

  • Novice says:

I have a holiday to maldives coming up and I’m getting worried now.

But news is sparse for maldives atm. Flights are via Abu Dhabi on Etihad.

Personally I would not mind traveling but the issue is quarantine which is unpredictable atm.

Does anyone know anything about maldives latest. I just know 4 places/resorts were placed in quarantine.

I’m pretty angry about this. Why did humans have to spread germs when I was about to do a bucket list item.

    • P says:

Because they wanted to travel, just like you want to?

    • Crafty says:

Try to be a little less selfish.

I was being ironic in this morbid time….

Because it is ironic that ppl are stocking up on hand washes and sanitizers when they still don’t wash hands after going toilet.

I’m OCD so you can imagine my fury realising that this would have never happened had everyone been washing hands like me forever.

Friday’s flight Heathrow – Warsaw was full and we learned about travel ban just before take off. I was going to fly back on Sunday but booked flight to Frankfurt on Saturday to get out of the country. Will worry about refund for Sunday’s flight later.

Imagine being trapped in Poland due to closed borders – you would be sick of cabbage, potatoes , pierogi and soup after the first week !

      • visitor says:

believe me, there is much more choice and variety of food……

      • Patrycja says:

Now now, no need to be rude…

      • Crafty says:

Polish food is fantastic. Many worse places to be stuck.

Apart from the Pierogi, id be in heaven.

      • Alex M says:

Anything from that list is better than English “cuisine” 😉

        • TGLoyalty says:

I dunno fish and chips and curry would beat all of that.

          • Novice says:

But those foods are not exactly English.

Curry belongs to india probably and as far as my knowledge fish and chips were first sold in England by a jewish immigrant.

If we had Brexit at that time. I fear we’d be eating porridge still or something. I’m too young to know.

  • Scott says:

What happens with this 2 week quarantine period?

Say I’ve booked a hotel for 1 night as a business trip and have to stay for 2 weeks due to rules changing overnight.
Do I stay in that hotel for free, have to pay my way or what?
Sure there are some nice places to be stuck, but others less so.

    • Crafty says:

How do you imagine you stay in a hotel for 2 weeks for free?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Check your insurance before you fly.

Nationwide says they will pay for hotels but not food.

  • NS says:

Host of Latin American countries have made announcements as well. The domino effect may well see a forced global shut down by the end of next week at this rate!

  • Patrick says:

This policy will make trade harder, the economic crash worse and do absolutely nothing to stop the virus.
It tends to be good nationalistic and xenophobic policy though…

  • Craig says:

Spain now too, flights turning back!

    • Jcp says:

The Madrid airport departures website is showing multiple departures to America. Is this duff information or am I missing something obvious?

      • Craig says:

Flights from the UK to Spain turned back mid-flight, this was Alicante, Malaga, Canaries etc.

        • Craig says:

Only one airline at the moment as far as I can see?

        • Rob says:

This is an ATC issue – not enough controllers turned up.

          • Craig says:

            From the Tui website:

            SPAIN
Following local measures put in place by the Spanish Authorities, including closing some hotel facilities and the local bars, restaurants and beaches we have made the difficult decision to cancel holidays due to travel between 14 and 16 March.

Although there is currently no advice from the UK Government against travelling to Spain it would not be the holiday experience we would want for our customers.

We will proactively contact all customers due to travel to Alicante between 14 March and 16 March to offer alternative holiday options or offer a full-refund. Any customers due to travel between 17 March and 23 March will be contacted about their holiday on Monday 16 March.

          • Shoestring says:

Low budget airline Jet2 have cancelled all flights to mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
Twitter: In response to local measures introduced throughout Spain to prevent the spread of Covid-19, including the closure of bars, restaurants, shops and activities including any watersport, we have taken the decision to cancel all flights to Mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
We know these local measures will have a significant impact on our customers’ holidays, which is why we have taken this decision

      • Rob says:

Flights are not banned. Lots of US citizens going home, lots of cargo.
