News in brief:

American Express launches Selfridges discounts

Two Selfridges cashback deals have launched across American Express cards.

These codes are marked as online only, so they are unlikely to work instore when it reopens.  You also cannot order a gift card online because, I believe, these are processed by a third party.

There appears to be two versions, both of which we have across our household:

Spend £100, get £30 back

Spend £250, get £50 back

The offers are valid for online purchases made by 5th July.

Virgin Atlantic drops its International Money Transfer offer

For the last few years, an interesting route to pick up a large chunk of Virgin Flying Club miles was via the Virgin Money International Money Transfer service.

It was a generous deal  The amount of Virgin Flying Club miles you could earn depended on the size of your transfer:

£5,000 – £9,999 – earn 2,500 miles

£10,000 – £19,999 – earn 5,000 miles

£20,000 – £49,999 – earn 10,000 miles

£50,000 – £99,999 – earn 25,000 miles

£100,000+ – earn 50,000 miles

Unfortunately, this deal is now over.  As you can see here, Virgin Money is getting out of this sector on 24th June.  The service was run as a joint venture with WorldFirst, which is taking over the customer database.  The Flying Club offer was meant to run until August 2020 so the contract is clearly ending earlier than Virgin Money anticipated.

  1. I’d been holding-off until nearer the end date, as I usually do (keep my options open). Have just sent 10k over this afternoon, and I will report back.

Happy with 50%, so I won’t be too distraught if that’s all I get.

  2. I transferred 2000 Heathrow rewards points, Which landed yesterday. The activity tab on the BA app says 2000 Avios yet the balance has increased by 6000 Avios?!

  3. Paul Sowden says:

I have no idea whether the cost of the Amex small business promotion they run every year falls on Amex or the retailer but if it’s More on Amex I’d Love to see them run some SME promotions once the lockdown eases. All my promotions tend to be for big spends with larger brands and I’d love to see spending at smaller companies incentivised

    • Sloth says:

If you were really bothered about helping SME you would shop there regardless and not need incentivising. I like a bargain as much as anyone but the way for the economy to pick up as quickly as possible is for those who are in a position to, to keep spending

      • I always have and always will support local businesses, but my point is that I hope Amex will do something to encourage more people to do the same

  4. sohan says:

I sent 8000 and received 16000 avios. This was on day 2 of the promo (link didn’t work for me on day 1)…

  5. Do you normally get an email to confirm the transfer? I transferred some this morning, but not got any email to acknowledge the transfer. Thanks.

  6. £35 over on day 2 of promo, 7000 Avios in return yesterday.
original £35 was made up of spending £500 for £30 bonus so win, win x 2

  7. Transferred Heathrow rewards on 17/5 and double hit my account yesterday.
    I like it when 50% = 100% 🙂

  8. This is still not working for me. Have tried different browsers but each gives error message “Not enough points to oder reward”. But, I have plenty of points.
