2,000 lucky holders of The Platinum Card from American Express are about to get themselves a very generous offer indeed – £400 of free Marriott International hotel stays!

This new offer has just launched. Only 2,000 people are able to register.

EDIT: If you checked your card earlier and it was not there, check again. I looked at 7am when I wrote this article and I couldn’t see it. At 10am, it was showing and I could register. Another reader said that it only appeared at 2pm on their account. It is also important that you check the website and not just the app, since the app only shows some of the offers for which you are targeted.

American Express Amex Platinum card £400 free Marriott stays

If you have The Platinum Card, I STRONGLY recommend that you look at your online offers page IMMEDIATELY. If you see this offer, click ‘save to card’. It will disappear as soon as 2,000 people have saved it.

I do NOT have this offer. It is possible that this is one for non-Londoners.

Do I really get £400 of free stays?

Yes. Here are the terms:

Spend £400 and get £400 cashback

You must stay by 23rd November

Valid at participating hotels

£400 of free Marriott hotel stays

What hotels are ‘participating’?

Not many, unfortunately. However, they are all very high end and you’re in for a treat with your free £400.

In the UK, your options are:

I live in London. This is pointless for me.

No it isn’t. Assuming that you simply don’t just fancy a change of scene, how about this?

Book the cheapest room you can find, and then spend the difference up to £400 in the hotel restaurant and bar. Go home at night if you must, then pop back to check out the next day.

Think of all the Marriott Bonvoy points you’ll earn as well!

There are numerous non-UK options too although only two German hotels are outside the UK quarantine rules.

If you are targetted for this offer, you are in for a great short break. Enjoy!

PS. On Tuesday, I hope to run another article showing the special benefits that you will get if you book via our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas.

Worked for me this morning which rather surprised me of only 2,000 can register.

  • James says:

It was still available on my platinum card at 9am this morning (some 24+ hrs after release) so if it really has been limited to the first 2,000 people to save it to their card not many people are taking up the offer.
    Sign of the times.
Not sure I want to have an unnecessary stay in a hotel at the moment
I’ve seen far less lucrative offers with a far larger number of spots available get snapped up in a fraction of the time.

…… but usually after Amex sends out an email. I admit I’m a little surprised though, given the number of page views to the article yesterday and the 15k emails we sent out today.

  • BigSi says:

I have this offer but am currently abroad and won’t be able to use it. If I make a booking online on marriott.com as a gift for a family member (same surname) will they be able to stay and will my platinum card be auto-billed when they checkout?

    • Rob says:

If the room is pre-paid it might work, but the hotel may insist on seeing the card at check-in as security. It is also possible the hotel doesn’t charge in advance (it is simply a lot of faff with so many people cancelling and requiring refunds) which means the guest would need to have your card to hand.

      • BigSi says:

@Rob, thanks for your prompt answer. You’ve kind of confirmed what I was worried about and I can’t really get the card to them. Happy to let them have a freebie but don’t want to be £400 out of pocket!

      • JohnG says:

Hi Rob, I’ve done this a few times and even relatively mundane hotels have ways to handle it. It’s quite common that they’ll send a form over to fill in confirming your details or similar if you aren’t the staying guest, however the guest staying has always received the benefits I’d have been entitled to even though the hotel doesn’t have to provide them.

  • Tony says:

Not on the Business one I have, will be ditching if these offers are only for the personal one. Nothing of interest ever on this card. So disappointing. To every one who got it – have a drink for me and enjoy

  • james says:

Went for a night at the W for £251, leaving £149 to spend on food and booze!

  • Paul says:

Does anyone know if you can book in your name but pay with a card in a different name. Basically my wife is the primary holder on Plat and won’t be able to join me 😢

  • C says:

Found the offer this morning on my Platinum Card (Croydon based) after reading the article – Thanks for the heads up, Rob, much appreciated.

Looking forward to a stay in a couple of weeks time
