  Just tried to cancel and rebook Radisson Blue – new ‘lower’ price is higher than what I had paid last time around. For reference – was looking at Jersey for next May.its 100 pounds more expensive. Some of the ‘deals’ can be phony 😛

    When did you previously book it?

    prices are dynamic so they increase as you get towards peak times or high occupancy on those date.

      I booked 3 weeks ago! Of course they increase, but I’m not travelling in peak period either and there are plenty of rooms available.

  I just hope thing improve with Black Friday prices. Hotels rates are mad when you can travel and limited prospects of doing so before summer. Airfares are a joke with prices as normal but dressed up with carbon emissions and pseudo offers. Nothing CX is offering is earth shattering and very far from the point I’d consider a tentative booking and free cash loan!

  I’m keen to hear H4P readers strategies/mindsets on booking things like (discounted) hotels for the next 6 months, especially abroad given the current lockdown and recent vaccine news.

  Its my understand that there will likely be some relaxing of rules like closed retail from 2 December given next month is by far their busiest month of the year and it would decimate retail if they remained closed until Christmas Eve.

  Then there will likely be a relaxing of the lockdown rules for 5 days/a week over Christmas given many families will meet up regardless of the rules.

  That is likely to cause another full lockdown for the month of January (let’s face it, not much happens in January in the UK anyway). Other than for a few days over Christmas I would expect the worldwide travel ban from the UK to remain until at least early Feb.

  BUT from February onwards, there may be some vaccine rollout for frontline NHS staff and most vulnerable people (say those 70 years +).

  I’m very interested to follow whether that rollout will mean a steady relaxation of restrictions (ie travel) from Easter onwards.

  Do you think by say, May, there will be no “travel corridors”, no government advice about not travelling anywhere (unless you are vulnerable category and not yet vaccinated) and no 14 day quarantine on your return to the UK?

  I know everything won’t magically return to normal next year but what’s your strategy on booking travel next summer? Do you think you’ll be able to travel largely unrestricted to say, Spain, or are you waiting until the vaccine is actually being rolled out before booking anything?

      Of course but Ive been avoiding even booking refundable travel for the last month or two. I have so many vouchers and credits already I don’t want to accumulate any more!

      I would hold off booking hotels abroad till shortly before and sure. Ot book flex / pay on drparture rates and ensure ypu use UK credit card wherevet possible for anything you do pay ahead to get Section 75.

      Know also quite a few retailers may go down top so again Section 75 would give you coveragr if you received an electrical item, say, snd it failef after 4 months but retailer n/a. Chargeback wontcover this as you rrceived the item and no s75.

    Strategy is book and plan as much as I can(all planned till end of Sep), but book everything refundable. I can then always change to something cheaper and non-refundable closer to the time. I check new rates for my bookings once a week. This is a good strategy even pre-covid.

    At the moment, for me, it’s about minimizing risk of losing any cash from bookings.

    So all my hotels are booked direct on cancelable, pay on departure rates or points. But I also do regular checks to see if that rate has reduced and switch to those.

    2 Long Haul flights for March and July have been booked as BA Holidays with one nights hotel so only paying a deposit. Also covered by book with confidence

    I have a couple of stand alone short haul flights with BA but they are covered by their book with confidence policy

    The only thing I have booked for the medium term is some flights with the half price Avios sale. I give it 50-50 chance as to whether I will have to push forward the dates, as it’s a destination with 2 weeks quarantine for all inbound travellers at the moment.

    I intend to travel to Europe in December if feasible, but I will just book them a few days ahead. I’m not really bothered about the prices as long as they are not ridiculous. The mental effort of having to spend hours on the phone and work out many different permutations of my plans are worth less than any savings would be.

    But this may be due to my style of travel. I usually plan things down to the hour, with contingencies for missing a train etc., and even before COVID I usually have to replan half of my trips on the fly!

    ChrisW I’m booking non-refundable Hotel booking but only starting from Aug 21 i’m using Hotels i’ve used before though.
    The Hotels I’d booked for this Sept non-refundable but refunded me quickly when asked (including Hotels.com bookings)
    I promised them i would rebook in 21
    I’ve had quite a lot of non-refundable hotel bookings over the years, that have either refunded me or re-booked me later.
    Maybe I’ve been lucky, but don’t see why i need to change

    We took it off the sidebar because Amazon cut its commission rates and it no longer justified the space vs running an ad instead.

  I have tried searching their direct flights from Gatwick across all months and yet to find anything!

    That price will be for Spanish domestic. Somewhere around double that price will be the cheapest you can get from UK to Spain
