Kimpton, IHG’s ‘luxury boutique’ brand, is gearing up for its next European opening in Paris.

The 149-room hotel is directly opposite InterContinental Le Grand, in a converted retail unit, which means it is ideally placed for the key department stores.

Kimpton Paris opening 2021

The location, at Opera, is also handy for Eurostar – it is a 30 minute downhill walk on one street from the station – or the airport, with the non-stop Roissy airport bus stopping virtually outside the door.

IHG Rewards Club redemptions are currently fixed at 40,000 points per night. This is an excellent deal based on the €700 (!) room rate showing for September, although it remains to be seen if this rate is achievable or not.

You can lock in redemptions up to a year in advance at this points price. The opening date is quoted as the vague ‘Spring 2021’ but it is likely to be open by the time you are allowed to visit.

The hotel website is here if you want to find out more.

I just booked the Kimpton for September if my trip still goes ahead. Thanks for the heads up

    • Anna says:

I’ve booked for December – hopefully Christmas markets will be back on this year!

      • Claire says:

Me too. Far enough away it might work but as you can cancel if you need to nothing to loose and I’m having withdrawal with no holiday planning. Are their Christmas markets good. Never been that time of year.

        • Bob says:

I find Christmas markets bad in Paris.

Anne Hidalgo too was not happy about them, finding them too much low quality regarding products sold.

I believe she has obtained the right to stop them from the “parliament” of Paris.
So I am not sure there will be there in the future.

Of course there are other activities to do in Paris or shops o visit.

        • Michael C says:

I love Paris in Dec.! For one thing, there are half a dozen markets to choose from. The decorations around G. Lafayette are fabulous (as is the rooftop view, of course).
We’ve stayed at the HIlton Opera the last couple of times – v. pleased. Beautiful building, nice lounge & location. Would def. like to try the Kimpton (and the IC, come to that!):

  • Gavin says:

Is it allowed to book IHG reward nights from my account for other people? Want to book a night in Paris for my parents if possible (I won’t be with them).

    • Genghis says:

Yes. If you call them up they will put your parents’ names on the booking.

      • Aston100 says:

Will they be entitled to any status benefits though (welcome drinks, room upgrades etc)?

    • Scott says:

Yes they will as long as you let them know in advance. Done it a few times for my parents at various IHG properties without any issues.

  • Stephen says:

Kimpton booked for four nights late July. Might come to nothing, but I have some Eurostar vouchers to use, too and a window of opportunity.

  • Reney says:

I’ve booked for the last weekend in August, which is just within the stay by date of one of my free nights that would have expired in July 2019. Agree it might come to nothing. But currently have no use for the two free nights, so might as well book something with it!

Rob recommended a Hyatt hotel at Budapest a while back, that booking has been pushed back 3/4 times already!

Also, have flights booked for Asia in May from the Virgin redemption sale last year. That is looking increasingly unlikely too.

  • Pangolin says:

“The chain has some excellent hotels, and I genuinely find Park Hyatt to be the best luxury chain which is run by one of the multi-brand groups.”

    But what about Raffles? 😉
