News in brief:
New LNER cashback deal with Amex works for all train companies
A new cashback deal with train operator LNER has appeared on many American Express cards. You need to opt-in if it shows in the ‘Offers’ section of one of your cards.
You receive 5% cashback on all transactions. The offer can be used multiple times and is valid until 5th May.
The offer says that it is “Valid every time up to £30”. The wording here is very weak. It could mean:
- your cashback is capped at £30 per booking
- your cashback is only paid on the first £30 of every booking
- your cashback is capped at £30 between now and 5th May
I am guessing it is the first one but I could be wrong.
The key point here is that you can book tickets for ALL train companies via the LNER website. You don’t need to be travelling on LNER. You can treat this as 5% cashback on any train travel you book by 5th May.
Stansted Airport has increased its drop-off fee to £7
In our article on Friday on the launch of Gatwick Airport’s new £5 drop-off fee, we said that:
“Gatwick’s £5 charge will be one of the most expensive airport drop-off fees in the country, matching Stansted’s pricing.”
We didn’t realise that Stansted has already taken steps to ensure that it continues to win this particular prize.
As you can see here, Stansted raised its drop-off fee to £7 in November 2020. Stay longer than 15 minutes and it jumps to an astonishing £25.
