News: Lufthansa adds Newcastle and Bristol, new lounges at Teesside

  The Bristol service was due to launch last year and then got pulled, fingers crossed it happens this time, shame the frequency and flight times aren’t as good this time. Lufthansa have also announced a Cork – Frankfurt service.

  It is still data not dates. Those dates are all guide markers subject to data and therefore subject to change. And there has also been no announcement or even a guide date set for international travel yet, with a review into the data being published on 12 April.

    Wishful thinking!
    The rush to book and to promote travel means it will be nigh on impossible for this incompetent gov to row back on the dates but the data can and will be massaged.
    The main sticking point will be other countries, particularly in Europe, who hopefully will take a more measured and cautious approach but even here the need to open up is likely to override public health priorities.
    Common sense and caution should preclude even the FCO from changing advice to South Africa and South America before the Autumn or even the end of 2021!
    I can these pages being filled with moaning about refunds before too long!

      Yep, I’ve still got a cancellable booking for the USA for mid June. Will see what happens – on the vaccine front at least they’re at similarly good levels of progress as the UK. Of course also need to see if Sturgeon retains more blocks for longer than Johnson too, which may impact on things. On the ground though numbers being admitted are down massively compared to the start of the year and vaccination uptake is higher than predicted, so I’m still holding out some hope!

          I have Florida and Spain booked for August but toying with the idea of booking a Plan C to Mexico which seems to have had no restrictions on entry for some time! This would push my UK booking down to Plan D status. As I mentioned yesterday, the only thing putting me off is the prospect of having to cancel yet another trip by phone rather than online.

    It’s not data driven though. Extremely unlikely but imagine covid completely disappeared tomorrow. Would we all still have to have to sit around twiddling our thumbs for four months because that’s what the ‘data’ shows?

  Lufthansa launched NCL-MUC last year. I always thought it was odd not to launch FRA.

  The reason given was lack of slots at FRA, so perhaps this is a slot sitter while long haul is decimated?

    It helps that Lufthansa has 2 hub bases in Germany as opposed to a single hub as we have here.

    It’s good to see other carriers offering alternatives to Heathrow and Lufthansa group are also beginning to compete on price

  I booked BRS FRA last year, first with Fly BMI, and had to use credit card chargeback, then LH took the route, and had to use chargeback again, as impossible to get LH to refund. Will never use LH again, dreadful customer service. BA on the other hand, were very fair and good in refunds on several bookings.

    I doubt if the impossibility of getting LH to refund was a CS issue, it seems to have been a decision taken at the highest level and (in a very bad move) supported by government.
    My own experience of LH CS two years ago when the FRA-HKG leg of our GLA-HKG journey was exemplary. The CS agent worked very hard, and successfully, to get us a better outcome than the LH computer.
    And the subsequent EU261 claim for the 10 hours delay was quick and without problem – cash in my a/c in Berlin in under a week, IIRC.

  This is great news , the only problem is getting to Teesside international. There is one train a week, yes one per week, and its on a Sunday!

    You just need to ensure your flight departs Teesside on a Sunday after 4pm, and lands back on a Sunday by 2pm

    Seems perfectly reasonable !
