IHG Rewards has enrolled you in milestone bonuses – but not told you

In December, we reported that some people had seen ‘milestone bonuses’ popping up in the ‘My Offers’ section of their IHG Rewards account.

It appeared to be based on Hilton’s milestone bonuses scheme:

  • Earn 10,000 bonus points for every 10 nights in 2021, with no cap
  • Earn an additional 20,000 bonus points for achieving 40 nights in 2021
IHG Rewards milestone bonus

We assumed that this would be rolled out to everyone by the New Year. However, January came and went and we all forgot about it. No-one else heard a peep from IHG.

And yet ….. you ARE enrolled in milestone bonuses, it seems. Or, at least, most people are – there are a handful of people in our comments section who don’t seem to be able to find it.

Go to your IHG Rewards account home page. On the left hand side, under your points total, is a button called ‘Messages’. You have probably never clicked it before.

Click on it now.

You will see this:

…. and when you click through:

…. you see full details of the milestone bonus. No registration is required.

The IHG milestone bonus is a decent deal as it is incremental to other promotions. For completing 40 nights, you would receive 60,000 bonus points which I value at (0.4p each) £240. This is an additional £6 rebate per night. It is obviously less valuable if you don’t manage 40 nights.

There is no counter to show how many nights you have done so far. Rollover nights from 2020 do not count.

This isn’t a bad deal on its own for people who stay in cheaper IHG brands such as Holiday Inn Express. As it stacks with other quarterly promotions, it could turn out to be lucrative if travel restarts in earnest later in the year.

Are the terms specified anywhere? With IHG’s terrible IT, I can’t find the page shown in the article… I’ve already stayed 10 IHG nights in 2021 – should I have 10k points incoming, or was the start date later than 1st Jan?

IHG Rewards website site is broken/slow for me right now. Took a couple of failed attempts to get the My Account page to show, and having clicked on Messages I’m just getting the Spinning Wheel of Tedium so cannot see this for myself.

It’s early Sunday morning so maybe there is/has been some weekend IT maintenance causing problems accessing the website?

  • Andrew says:

I wonder if reward nights count, because they do count towards status.

    • Andrew says:

Answered my own question by checking the terms which say it needs to be a qualifying stay of $30 or more per night.

  • Craig says:

Finally loaded on my account, I’ve stayed 19 nights this year and no bonus points have been added. I do note it states 4-6 weeks, it’s about 5 weeks since the stay that took me over 10 nights.

  • Gavin says:

Of some interest to me as I’ve done 8 nights in IHG this year, however that was mainly because I spent the first 10 weeks of 2021 living in hotels and Airbnb’s

  • Olly says:

I think IHG are struggling with a lot of I.T. issues and have been for a while both in app and web browser, I cannot find this Milestone bonus feature anywhere. My Creation credit card free night certificate that was supposed to go into my account in late January still hasn’t gone in despite two calls to CS, though they compensated me with 3000 points while they look into it. Creation confirmed I reached my spend and that they have already informed IHG Rewards.

  • Chrisasaurus says:

Remarkable if par-for-the-course for IHG – it is a decent deal, except by not advertising it they’re just giving margin away without affecting behaviour to drive additional stays/revenue

This is just giving customers a discount they need ask for, after the fact.

These people should not be in charge of running a global hotel franchise….

  • Gary says:

On the app I also see an offer for 2k bonus every 2 nights – but only until the end of March..
