Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

You can now claim your 25,000 IHG Rewards points for having Spire Elite status

If you had your IHG Rewards Spire Elite status rolled over last year, even though you didn’t earn enough points to requalify, there is some good news.

Your 25,000 bonus IHG Rewards points for requalifying as Spire Elite are now available to claim.

Alternatively, you can gift Platinum Elite status to a friend.

Given that the points are worth at least £100 I doubt many of you will want to do any gifting, but you can review the Platinum Elite benefits on this page of ihg.com.

Many of us thought that the points would not arrive

When IHG rolled over elite status last year, it specifically said that members who were Spire Elite WOULD receive their requalification gift.

The gift usually appears immediately when you requalify but in this case it did not. No-one was sure what was happening, but as IHG Rewards had voluntarily extended status you couldn’t really complain.

All has turned out well, however, and the 25,000 points are now available.

How do you claim your 25,000 IHG Rewards bonus points for being Spire Elite?

Go to ihg.com here and log in to your account.

On your account home page, scroll down and you will see a button to click.

You can then choose between gifting Platinum Elite status or taking the points.

It is good to see IHG Rewards coming through here, when they could easily have said that people who were gifted requalification would not receive anything.

  • Ryan says:

If you have the IHG App installed, you may need to delete and reinstall the App as mine wasn’t showing.

Delete App, Click Robs link, add points, reinstall App.

    25000 added straight away.

  • Paul says:

    Not showing in mine.

  • Magarathea says:

I achieved Spire last year and this year and have claimed both 25k rewards. Nothing extra for me.

  • Hilly says:

Wasn’t showing on the app. Found it using desktop. Had three benefit redemptions showing -hertz, 25,000 points and 25,000 points AGAIN. Added both sets of points and both have posted. Points total hasn’t updated though.

  • Johnny5a says:

I received my 25k choice benefit back in October 2020

  • IanM says:

Worked for me, feel happier renewing Ambassador now.

Is there any benefit to renewing Ambassador or letting it lapse and joining again??

    • Craig says:

With the loss of the 10% rebate I’m struggling to see the point in renewing until just before I need it?

      • Dave R says:

When renewing this time last year, I was told by the Amb team that the 10% rebate is still valid (despite some IHG staff claiming contrary). Has something changed since then?

        • Craig says:

It’s not listed as a benefit in the T&Cs. Lots of talk over the past few months here and on FT about it being removed?

      • James says:

Same, I’m being offered 15k points too, to renew, but struggling to see the point with so much uncertainty over travel and loosing the ability to use last year’s Amb night certificate as of 1st April

  • Mark says:

The only offer on mine is a Hertz upgrade 🙁

  • Harry Holden says:

Nothing for me. Tried reinstalling the app and looked on the desktop version. Absent. Not that I really value the points anyway. Until IHG start guaranteeing benefits and offering premium rooms on rewards, they will always be my second choice after Hilton. It’s just a shame Hiltons UK distribution is so weak.
