Hilton Honors has just launched its new Autumn promotion which is now open for registration.

The promotion is called ‘Power Up‘.

To give Hilton credit, it is very straightforward with virtually no small print.

You will earn DOUBLE Hilton Honors base points for every stay between 7th September and 31st December.

Pay with the (not available to new cardholders) Hilton Honors UK credit card, issued by Barclaycard, and you get TRIPLE points.  The registration page talks about paying with a ‘Hilton American Express’ but the terms and conditions make it clear that your Barclaycard works just as well.

There is NO ‘starting with your second stay’ rule.  You get double points from your first stay during the promotional period.

For most brands, you will earn 10 base points per $1 spent, plus an additional 10 promotional points plus any status bonus.

Given that I value a Hilton Honors point at around 0.33p, you are getting a good return on your spending here.  20 points per $1 is an 9% rebate and that is before you add in any status bonus. A Diamond would be getting 13.5% back.

Be wary of using your Hilton Barclaycard outside the UK

If you still have the Hilton Honors Barclaycard then it is an even better deal for UK stays, where you will receive triple base points PLUS your status bonus. A Diamond member would be getting 40 points per $1, so 18% back.

This card has a 3% foreign exchange fee, however, so I would be ambivalent about this part of the offer for stays outside the UK.

You are getting 3.3p of extra points per $1 in return for a 2.95p foreign exchange fee for every £1 you spend.  This initially seems OK, but you need to remember that you only get points on the ex-VAT part of your bill.  You’ll also be incurring the 3% FX fee on all non-qualifying charges on your bill (this includes food and drink at Hampton properties).

The maths may not work if you have another credit card with 0% FX fees.

Hilton Honors double points power up offer 2021

The offer is refreshingly free of small print

There is not much small print except that you need to register in advance via the Hilton website here

Apart from that, all is good:

  • There is no minimum stay requirement
  • Existing bookings still count
  • All Hilton Family properties (Hilton, Hampton, Curio, Waldorf-Astoria, Conrad etc) are taking part – there is no list of non-participating hotels

Remember that the Home2 Suites and Tru brands earn a lower 5 base points per $1.

Register for ‘Power Up’ now

Hilton’s new ‘double base points’ is a decent offer, especially for people doing longer, more expensive stays.

You should make sure you register here if you have any Hilton stays coming up over the next four months.

Even without Hilton Honors status, you will be earning 20 points (which I value at 6.6p) per $1.  This is an 9% rebate on your spending.  Anyone with Hilton status will do even better..

Even if you don’t have any stays planned, it is still worth registering just in case – a lot can happen between now and 31st December.

If you’re lucky, American Express may launch another Hilton cashback offer which would double up with this and provide an even greater return.

You can sign up for ‘Power Up’ here.

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Very smug about this, got a cracking deal with Emyr (3 for 2, free brekie, $100 F&B ect.), used the Amex cash back offer and now double points! Plus hopefully a status match in the works

    • TGLoyalty says:

It’s just double base points 🙂

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

I’m effectively receiving nearly 40 points per pound once discounting all the credits and paid for breakfasts, sounds great to me!

        • Save East Coast Rewards says:

You also get double base points with Emyr too, so you’ll get a nice stash of points

        • TGLoyalty says:

Yeah they basically throw points at you …

Don’t we all get free breakfast at Hilton’s.

  • His Holyness says:

Should work to pay first with any card, then a final transaction with the HH BC, could be for a £1 and that will get sent to Hilton as the payment card.

  • R2 says:

Often missed out/not utilised correctly HH benefit > Hilton ‘2nd Guest Stays Free’ for ALL members.

If two of you are staying, then only specify ONE adult in the room. When you turn up at the hotel, inform the reception desk that the other person is the ‘2nd Guest Staying Free’ :).

Saving you any extra expense when you put down another person when booking online. “Additional components like dinner excluded”.

    • Blenz101 says:

Stays for free is intended for markets where occupancy is charged per room. Breakfast is also free for each guest at gold and above.

If you buy an extra F&B package then this isn’t a ‘stay’. Hotel would easily be within their rights to charge and you would have zero comeback.

  • His Holyness says:

Because it’s rare it costs more in Europe and certainly not in the U.K., only at HbH will there be a price difference.

    • John says:

Your comment is unclear, can you clarify what you mean?

Hampton Corby adds £8 for a second guest, but I haven’t noticed any other UK Hiltons doing so

      • Sloth says:

I didn’t think UK hotels were allowed to do that? I know it is more common in Germany tho

      • His Holyness says:

Because HbH include breakfast, its not room only, there is a cost for an extra guest, but otherwise for other Hilton hotels that have room only rates the price is the same. Hence, the benefit is useful at HbH and some places in Europe and obvious ones like Japan.

        • John says:

I understand your point but breakfast is described as complimentary so there should be no extra charge.

      • barnaby100 says:

        Are you sure?

I stay there regularly doing multiple single and double bookings in 1 go and have never noticed that.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

DoubleTree at NCL airport charges for secong guest I’ve been told

      • John says:

Yes just did a search and DT NCL adds £7. Hampton Newcastle doesn’t charge extra.

  • AlanC says:

Bankside was £20 more for a second guest when I booked yesterday for a September stay.
