News in brief:

IHG’s Six Senses brand takes over a high end Maldives resort

This certainly came out of the blue, but it is welcome news regardless.

The Kanuhura resort in the Maldives, once part of One&Only but more recently unbranded, has just been sold. It seems that the previous owner was suffering financial problems and that this resort was non-core to their portfolio. The new owner has wasted no time in signing a deal with IHG’s luxury brand Six Senses.

Six Senses already has a Maldives resort, Six Senses Laamu. Kanuhura will be rebranded in ‘late 2022’, presumably after certain changes are made to meet Six Senses brand standards.

This is not quite your normal ‘hotel changes brand’ story, however.

Kanuhura is already available to book on ihg.com. It appears to be keen to get business from IHG before the rebranding is complete.

Reward space is wide open at a fixed price of 125,000 IHG Rewards points per night. Cash rates in January are around $1,100 per night including taxes, so you are getting 0.65p per IHG Rewards point. This is well above our target IHG Rewards points valuation of 0.4p.

I don’t know anything about the resort personally. It did win ‘Best Family Resort in The Maldives’ at the 2017 and 2019 World Travel Awards so it might be worth a look if you have children.

Heading to Scandinavia? Here’s a good Radisson deal

If you are heading to Denmark, Sweden, Finland or Norway, Radisson Hotels has a good deal running.

Given how strong the Radisson portfolio is in this region – a legacy of its previous ownership under Scandinavian airline SAS – it shouldn’t be hard to take advantage.

You will receive 7,000 bonus Radisson Rewards per night between now and 18th November.

We value a Radisson Rewards point at 0.33p. This means that the bonus is worth £23 per night and you will also earn your base and elite status points on top.

The deal is capped at 35,000 bonus points over the course of the offer.

You MUST register in advance via this page of the Radisson website.

In theory you should also be a member of SAS EuroBonus to take part but clearly Radisson cannot check that. It seems that existing bookings do count although the wording could be clearer. Don’t forget to register.

Get £100 American Express cashback at WorldHotels

Last week saw a rush of new American Express hotel cashback offers launched with Marriott, Hyatt and Thistle amongst others.

Bringing up the rear – but certainly worth a look – is a new offer from the WorldHotels consortium.

If you haven’t heard of WorldHotels, it is a marketing group – rather like Preferred Hotels or Leading Hotels of the World – which lets hotels remain fully independent but share a common marketing platform. As their website puts it:

“WorldHotels is a proven soft brand solution for a curated collection of luxury & upscale independent properties.”

Assuming that your American Express card is targetted and that you register, you will receive £100 cashback when you spend £250 at a participating WorldHotels property.

The offer ends on 30th November.

There are participating hotels across Europe but the UK ones are:

Courthouse Hotel, Great Marlborough Street, London
Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch, London
Murrayshall Country House Hotel, Perth
Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, London
Ten Hill Place, Edinburgh
The Caesar Hotel, London
The Rudloe Arms, Corsham
The Washington Mayfair, London

Kanuhura is a lovely resort. It was one of the original One&Only Resorts in the Maldives along with Reethi Rah but has been operating under its own branding as a stand alone resort for the past 10 years at least… the rooms were always a bit more basic compared to Reethi Rah but prices reflected that and this continued to be the case under its stand alone branding too. I always liked Kanuhura for its range of dining options which were impressive considering there’s only 80 or so villas there. As a Six Senses it will be interesting to see what they do to tart the place up to bring it in line… and how much room rates will increase as a result.

Taking of new IHG resorts, the new Kimpton Kitalay on Koh Samui has just gone on sale for dates from 1st February.

No World Hotels offer for me, but I have got £100 off a £400 spend at Luxury Bonvoy hotels. Great I thought, with an expensive stay at a new Bonvoy 5* property coming up….

But it’s not on the very short – and very eclectic – list of qualifying places. Whilst it includes the Bvlgari in London, it also includes the Sheraton at LHR….

    Odd

Double check as the last 2 and a bit pages add some extra properties which aren’t sorted correctly by country in the previous pages.

My 1,000 Avios from the Qatar Airways 5,000 points sign-up offer just hit Accor and were automatically sent to Iberia, by the way.

Problem for others is that Accor now won’t let you turn on auto-convert unless you have 3,000 Accor points, so if you do this you end up with 1,000 Accor points worth €20 off a hotel booking (but you need 2,000 Accor points for the smallest redemption). Basically, it’s not worth doing unless you earn and spend Accor points.

Any WorldHotels that also feature in SLH’s portfolio?

Kanuhura only $600+ for the dates I looked in December and cash rate also includes half-board.

“via this page of the Radisson website.”

I get access denied when I click on that link. Do you need to be in Europe / VPN via Europe for this?

    • meta says:

Radisson Rewards is having serious IT issues for months now, ever since the separation. I can’t access at any of my reservations online. I can see them standing there, but get error messages on every single device when I try to view more details. Also logging into account can be difficult at times as I get password reset requests or account unknown or server errors…
