In late September, we covered a decent deal. Holders of American Express Business Platinum and Business Gold were being offered £100 cashback on a £400 spend with American Express Travel.
This offer has now finally been offered to personal American Express cardholders too.
Platinum cardholders should be offered the same £100 cashback on a £400 spend. Gold and Green cards may see an offer of £50 cashback on a £200 spend.
The offer runs to 21st November.
This offer probably works best for flight bookings. Hotels booked via American Express Travel are treated as third party bookings and do not qualify for status benefits or loyalty points.
Cumulative spend is OK, looking at feedback from Business cardholders who got the offer a month earlier.
There is one upside. As we wrote here, American Express Travel now allows you to pre-pay American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings. This would allow you to combine the strong benefits of an FHR stay with the £100 cashback.
(Pre-paying your FHR booking may disqualify you from status benefits and loyalty points, although you will get these if an FHR booking is paid at the hotel. Most FHR hotels are not part of major loyalty programmes, however. FHR is only a benefit for Platinum cardholders.)
I have never used an American Express Travel cashback offer because of the issues over status benefits, but now that FHR is included I might be able to do something with this one.
