British Airways has just announced the routes that it will be flying from London Gatwick for Summer 2022.

Tickets to 35 destinations have just been released at ba.com. If you want Avios seats for peak Summer dates then I recommend you book NOW.

Don’t rush to book cash tickets, as you may find that discounted prices don’t appear for a couple of days.

As a reminder, British Airways has decided to launch a new standalone airline to operate its short haul flights from London Gatwick. This won’t happen from Day 1 because BA is unable to get an Air Operators Certificate issued in time.

Flights will initially be operated by British Airways directly rather than the new BA Euroflyer business. Once BA Euroflyer launches, the flight crew and cabin crew will be on different contracts with poorer pay and conditions than their Heathrow counterparts.

To the customer, BA Euroflyer will look and feel exactly like a standard British Airways flight. There will be no difference in terms of baggage rules, seat selection, lounge access, food and drink etc.

Club Europe will be offered on the new Gatwick services.

I am assuming that the airline will be moving back to its home in the South Terminal although this has not been confirmed. ba.com does show Gatwick South as the operating terminal during the booking process.

Where can I fly on BA from Gatwick next Summer?

Gatwick operations will relaunch in late March with a grand total of three aircraft. This will ramp up to 18 aircraft by the end of May.

Gatwick Airport South Terminal

Because of the small number of aircraft being used, services are erratic – flight times move from day to day, and some routes are only served on certain days of the week. Amsterdam, for example, departs at 07.35 on 29th March, 16.00 on 30th March and then not at all on 31st March, 1st April, 2nd April, 3rd April or 4th April.

British Airways will be serving the following short haul routes from London Gatwick next Summer:

  • Alicante – 1st April
  • Antalya – 2nd April
  • Amsterdam – 29th March
  • Athens – 4th May
  • Bari – 3rd April
  • Berlin – 8th April
  • Bordeaux – 15th April
  • Cagliari – 17th April
  • Catania – 31st March
  • Dalaman – 23rd April
  • Dubrovnik – 4th April
  • Faro – 30th March
  • Heraklion – 24th April
  • Ibiza – 5th April
  • Kos – 24th April
  • Lanzarote – 30th March
  • Larnaca – 29th March
  • Las Palmas – 2nd April
  • Madrid – 14th April
  • Mahon – 11th April
  • Malaga – 31st March
  • Malta – 30th March
  • Marrakech – 31st March
  • Milan – 15th April
  • Nice – 31st March
  • Palma – 7th April
  • Paphos – 29th March
  • Rhodes – 28th April
  • Santorini – 15th April
  • Seville – 29th March
  • Tenerife – 29th March
  • Thessaloniki – 14th April
  • Turin – 4th April
  • Venice – 8th April
  • Verona – 29th March

I strongly recommend that you book immediately if you want to secure Avios seats on the most popular routes. You can book on ba.com here.

  • cats_are_best says:

Just booked ACE for July/August, used up the last eVoucher.

  • AndyW says:

They have moved my Alicante flights to the middle of the night, which is impossible with two little ones. What rights do I have here? Can I force them to put me on another carrier at the correct time?

    • Rod james says:

If they claim that they have cancelled the flight and booked you on a later service, that counts as a cancellation, and you are fully entitled to a refund of all monies paid.

    • Richie says:

If the flight numbers are different then your flight was cancelled and cancellation rights in Art 8 of reg 261 apply.

  • His Holyness says:

I’m booked on FCO from LGW, still no cancellation, but doesn’t seem to be one of the routes.

    • His Holyness says:

Just cancelled. Another lovely flex ticket. Thanks BA.

      • Michael Jennings says:

I have a BIO from LGW in April. They haven’t cancelled it yet, although it’s not one of the new routes. Might come soon.

  • apbj says:

So apart from the (quite welcome) addition of Berlin, the new plan looks exactly the same as it always was. What a lot of noise for nothing!

Very glad about Malta as I looked at a trip from LHR over Easter but the prices were eye-popping.

  • Charlie says:

Assume that the Gold Priority Reward won’t work for Gatwick any longer like it doesn’t from City as it’s not “mainline”?

  • Nick says:

For those who’ve noticed the ‘interesting’ pricing at the moment… this will of course change in the coming days. I thought it was common HfP knowledge by now that new routes can only be loaded with full fare classes, but once the rev man system calculates demand forecasts this will readjust itself.

In terms of routes, it is as it was always going to be. There’s only one interesting route yet to be announced (by ‘interesting’ I mean ‘that you might not expect’).

  • Louise says:

Thanks Rob, have booked May half term

  • kitten says:

Can evouchers be used for BA’s so-called ‘taxes’ on an avios booking?

    • Rhys says:

      Yes, I believe so.

    • Dave says:

I though you just sent an email with the voucher details asking them to apply it to your booking. No need to mention it’s an avios ticket. Cash is then refunded to your payment card.

      • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

I’ve sent an E-Mail to BA holidays@ BA.com to use an E-Voucher against a holiday booking but who would I E-Mail to offset against the ‘taxes’ on an Avios booking ?

        • NorthernLass says:

If the voucher is from a cancelled BA holiday booking, it’s possible to get them to apply it to a new avios booking.

        • Dave says:

Not sure about the email address, I think Anna knows. Maybe best to ask on the forum. Not done it myself but seen a few comments about it.

          • Nick says:

That’s for a Holidays booking. Flight only doesn’t have the same rules or procedures.
