Hyatt takes two more London hotels from IHG

Back in October we exclusively revealed that Crown Plaza The City – for many people, the best IHG Rewards hotel in London – was defecting to Hyatt. It will become Hyatt Regency London Blackfriars from 1st March.

Two more IHG properties in London are also joining Hyatt from 1st April.

Hyatt Regency London Stratford hotel

Holiday Inn Stratford City – which we reviewed here back in 2013 when it was £20 per night – becomes Hyatt Regency London Stratford.

Staybridge Suites Stratford City, which is in the same building, reportedly becomes Hyatt House London Stratford (no website yet).

This is a very similar arrangement to what we saw in Manchester, when the new Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites switched to Hyatt after just a year.

These are the two hotels which are part of the Westfield shopping centre. Just a few seconds from Stratford tube and overground station, they are well connected for most of London.

What I don’t understand is the use of the Hyatt Regency brand. Whilst I liked Holiday Inn Stratford City, it is light years away from Crowne Plaza The City in terms of quality and facilities. Putting the Hyatt Regency brand on both of these hotels is a mistake. Grand Hyatt is arguably a better brand for the City site.

That Radisson deal seems to be non-refundable.

Checking some weekend dates in October 2022, the ‘jansale’ rate is only £1 to £2 less per night than the normal rate on Radisson’s own website. Breakfast included and non-refundable in all cases.

      Odd?

City CP (Which I will sorely miss and was amazing for the three NYEs on the trot we spent there), HI & SBS Stratford were all also managed by IHG were they not?

Is it possibly IHG looking to get out of the directly managing properties that may be causing the brand changes? Although common sense would suggest the owners look towards a management company who already manage IHG premises I suppose.

We have a huge support office at Stratford and I’ve lost count of how many nights I’ve spent in those two properties over the years. Will be interesting to see if the Corp code rolls over. I may have to start taking a closer look at Hyatt

    • Erik says:

Pretty sure both Stratford properties are Cycas Hospitality (Dutch hotel development / management company) built and managed. They did a lot of the UK’s first “extended stay” concepts and were predominantly IHG back then, but there was a big fanfare about a Hyatt in France (?) recently and I think they also did the London Hyatt Place.

Info should be easily available for anyone interested in such things!

      • Rob says:

You’re correct. Cycas was also involved in the two Manchester hotels which switched.
