Hilton opening a private island resort in Abu Dhabi

We don’t normally write about new hotels which won’t open in the current year, but this one is different. And 2023 isn’t that far away ……

Hilton’s luxury brand LXR Hotels & Resorts has signed a deal to open a private island resort in Abu Dhabi, complete with a golf course. An image is below.

LXR Hotels & Resorts is, effectively, Curio Collection for very high end properties. Hilton imposes far fewer ‘brand standards’ than it would with a Conrad or Waldorf Astoria.

The all-villa resort will include 80 beach and water villas plus a 450 square-metre two-bedroom royal villa. The property will surround its own golf course.

Facilities will include an upscale gym, fitness studio, tennis and paddle courts, a private marina, beach club and spa. There will be three swimming pools to choose from, including two outdoor pools and one indoor. Children will have their own playground, dedicated swimming pool, splash pad and kids’ club.

Can Hilton successfully recreate the feel of a Maldives resort in the Middle East? Will guests actually want to be on their own island? Let’s see. With only 80 villas it certainly won’t be overcrowded.

More salt in the wound from IHG & Creation after unfairly cancelling cards linked to Curve.

  • Duncan Jordan says:

I have both but don’t see the offer where am I looking

  • Harry T says:

The creation killjoys cancelled my card but IHG is none the wiser. I suspect the cheap points prices I found for the Edinburgh Kimpton the other day were early sale prices, but I’ve just saved another 1600 points on a Saturday night in April. 50,400 points for Friday and Saturday night when the best flexible rate is running around £300 a night.

  • James says:

Any comments on existing rewards bookings before 25th May? I’ve got one booked so is there anything to stop me cancelling and rebooking with the 20% off?

    • RussellH says:

We did just that a month ago, when a similar offer was running.

Just checked some prices for next month: exactly 20% less than they were last night.
      🙂

    • squawk7700 says:

Just done this for the Intercontinental Maldives and saved myself 120K points. However, best check that there is reward availability first, before cancelling. I don’t think that cancelling a room will guarantee it ends up back in the reward inventory.

      • James says:

Thanks both! Just done it for 2 bookings I’ve got coming up and clawed back a load of points thank you

      • Harry T says:

Agree with the risk of cancelling in the absence of existing reward availbility – especially with high stakes/points bookings. However, I did cancel a pre existing points night for Edinburgh with no redemption availability, and the reward night went back into inventory and I was able to rebook.

Am trying to post in the daily chat but it will not let me log in saying I need to complete the captcha but none appears
Any tips as have tried in both safari and chrome

    • Rob says:

Apologies – a few people have issues with this. It is NOT triggered by the Captcha we put on the registration page. It is triggered by our internet security provider which thinks you are trying to hack into the site. We are still trying to understand why this happens.

      • Comrade Chag says:

Will this announcement come with any Avios offers?

        • Jonathan says:

Rob won’t be telling anymore than he just already has, regular HfP readers know this well !

        • Rob says:

          It’s already live.

          • BJ says:

QR app is even more temperamental than usual today so I guess the migration and pieces are ongoing. I’ve given up, will wait for the article(s) and explore again tomorrow.

          • Rob says:

Yes, apparently the taxes and charging pricing is being integrated during the day.

      • Ali M says:

they never asked for my avios membership number – hope they dont create duplicate avios accounts :S

    • Spurs drive me mad says:

Welcome Debs, hope you’r ok and your travel plans going a lot more smoothly at last.

  • r* says:

Do I need to do anything to see the reduced IHG points rates other than just log in? Its showing me the same price logged in as not as a former creation card holder.
