News: HfP party, Virgin Atlantic pulls Havana, new Kimpton hotels secret password

HfP 10th birthday party sold out!
The Head for Points 10th birthday party on 21st June sold out in 7 minutes yesterday.
We’d like to say sorry to everyone who missed out. We genuinely had no idea what the demand would be like, especially with ‘work from home’ now being more common. It took us three days to sell 500 tickets for the Christmas 2019 party and we thought we’d be lucky if we did the same this time.
Congratulations to everyone who got a ticket. We will do our best to make it a great night. See you on the 21st.
Virgin Atlantic cancels flights to Havana – before they start
Last month, Virgin Atlantic announced it would re-instate flights to Havana from November. This month, however, it appears to have changed its mind.
Passengers who were booked on the service got the following email last week:
“We’re disappointed to confirm that due to the unique complexities of Cuban operations, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw plans to start London Heathrow – Havana services.”
It’s not entirely clear what these ‘unique complexities are, and Virgin won’t tell us ….
Kimpton’s new Summer secret social password
Kimpton fancies itself as one of the cooler IHG brands, and part of that involves something it calls a secret ‘social password’. This is is intended to get you extra perks when you stay at the brand.
These secret passwords are valid seasonally and shared on social media, and can involve anything from free drinks, parking, breakfast or an upgrade – the choice varies by hotel. All you have to do is mention the password at check-in.
The latest password, which is valid until the 5th September, is ‘stay cool’. Let us know if it gets you anything worthwhile.
