IT’S BACK, BE QUICK: Many IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The crazy IHG redemption deal which popped up a couple of Sundays ago is back. Whether or not it is an IT error, you should MOVE NOW.

Many IHG hotels globally, for many dates, are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

EDIT, Wednesday evening: This deal is now, in the main, dead, especially for those hotels where the discounts were most impressive.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

Last time I booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a few days earlier, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

The real value here is at hotels which are usually hugely expensive for cash and would therefore be 100,000+ points per night under IHG’s new dyanamic pricing model. Not every hotel is a bargain under this deal – in some cheap cities, prices will have gone up today because these are properties which benefit from dynamic points pricing.

Funamentally …. if you’re getting over 1p per point it is a steal. If you’re getting 0.75p per point it is far better than normal. If you’re getting 0.4p to 0.5p per point then don’t get excited – this is what you’d usually expect.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Don’t hang around – with free cancellation there is NO downside, albeit check the rules for peak times such as New Year’s Eve.

Should you buy points?

There is currently a 75% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who did this last time said that they were posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others. Note that some people had issues when trying to make multiple purchases as security delays appear to kick in.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it. You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

  • Paul says:

Thanks HfP. Great spot. Definitely not ‘half price’ but booked an IC for 35k points on a bank holiday (in Oz); and an airport HI for 20k. Very happy as I have a few points in the IHG bank and have been wanting to use them.

  • NorthernLass says:

Very sweet spots over Xmas and New Year in the US. I got 5 nights at the HI Key Largo for 20k pn – cash prices are nearly £500 pn! Should get Diamond free brekkie as well.

    • NorthernLass says:

Just for comparison, this hotel was 100k pn when I started looking a few months ago so the reduction is really astonishing.

  • Sammy says:

If you book 2 rooms with diamond status are they likely to both get free breakfast? Intercontinental park lane booked.

  • palty says:

anyone know perhaps which hotel in Miami is good to book?
I’m currently looking at the kimpton epic hotel in downtown Miami its prices at 45000 per night although not sure if that’s the standard rate or not
    any help pls?

    • Rob says:

If the cash rate is above $250 then 45k is not the correct price.

      • palty says:

yeah i just checked its $553 per night for my dates

        • NorthernLass says:

I’ve got the IC Doral booked in December, 38k pn, the other IC is 45k, both look decent options.

    • Craig V says:

The IC is reasonable and convenient for everything. Avoid the Holiday Inn by the cruise port. The pool there has a closure notice on it served by the city.

    • HH says:

I just booked the Kimpton Southcomber for April @45k/night. I thought it had the best beach location of the IHG properties, though I was also tempted by the IC for a downtown stay.

  • Michael C says:

For USA on a points+cash payment; “.Prices include taxes and fees” – does that include the infamous resort charge?!!

    • marcw says:

No. On IHG awards, you have to pay resert/destination/howevertheycallit fees

    • HH says:

Sadly not. My Kimpton Southcomber booking @45k/night advised of $44 daily resort fees 😤

  • Louie says:

    I’m just getting error messages…..

  • Jordan says:

I have just purchased 200,000 points praying they go into my account before this offer drys up

    • Rob says:

They post immediately or not for a while. Log in and log out.

      • Jordan says:

Thanks Rob, it came instantly! Just booked 2 rooms Intercontinental Sydney harbour for New Year! Incredible deal, I’ve been looking for rooms over new year for a while but they have been so expensive.

  • ChrisM says:

Doesn’t seem to be working on Cayman Islands Kimpton Seafire 🙁 (week before Christmas)
Yesterday I checked it and was 70,000. Still 70,000 this am. Still a bargain though as cash price is £1700 per night and £1500 would top me up with enough points for 4 nights.

    • NorthernLass says:

The rate never changes on this one IME, but it’s already a massive bargain given the cash prices. I keep expecting it to go up …

      • ChrisM says:

I made a mistake, since it’s US$1700 per night, rather than £, however, even taking the $80 resort fee into account, it’s a bargain with points. We should really be keeping this one to ourselves 😉 It can only be better than last Christmas as Social Hour is back properly and buffet breakfast will be open every day, rather than just weekends.
