Following our story earlier in the week about the opening of the new Plaza Premium Edinburgh lounge, we have been sent a few official photographs.

We hope to get up to take a look in a few weeks, once the festival is out of the way.

Here is the bar:

Slightly bizarrely, there is a climbing wall for children:

…. and a shuffleboard table:

Plaza Premium is not part of Priority Pass or its sister scheme Lounge Key. It is part of DragonPass, if you have one of those via your Barclays or NatWest bank accounts or have bought one direct.

You can also enter Plaza Premium lounges with an American Express Platinum card. You need to show your Platinum card (not your Priority Pass card) at the entrance. You are allowed one free guest.

If you don’t have an Amex Platinum or DragonPass card, you can prebook for cash here.

The lounge home page is here.

  • David says:

Does anyone know if Virgin will be using this lounge for their Upper Class / Gold passengers ?

    • Rob says:

Almost certainly, given that Plaza now manages Virgin’s portfolio outside London.

      • Peggerz says:

Is there any history of Qatar using PP Lounges as the previous iteration of this space was used by Qatar and Emirates (when are Emirates coming back to EDI?). At present Qatar only offer the rather drab BA Lounge at EDI with views of the car park.

        • Rob says:

Even that Qatar owns 25% of IAG/BA and the two are doing what they can to support each other at the moment, I doubt Qatar will want to voluntarily hand over a few thousand pounds per day to Plaza Premium if it can pay BA the same amount.

        • Numpty says:

Qatar dont even pay for Biz class passengers at EDI to get fast track access, never have. QR staff told me they dont think its ‘worth it’!

  • Rob H not Rob says:

Do Hyatt stays / nights at M LIFE destinations count towards Brand Explorer and elite tier status ?

    • Gordon says:

Can’t see it on my app on Brand explorer at the bottom so I guess not?!

  • Gordon says:

Hyatt actually purchased the Apple leisure group, Which AMR are within….. I stay at a Hyatt Ziva/Zilara AI at least once a year in the Caribbean.Hyatt also has a promotion on these properties in the form of 20% off, Book by 26th September 2022, Stay up to January 31st 2024….

  • David says:

The climbing wall looks random and dangerous! right next to stairs?

    • dundj says:

The climbing wall is about six feet high. Not huge at all and definitely only for children.

    • Mike Hunt says:

Do the stairs actually go anywhere- they seem to lead into a wall !!

      • dundj says:

If you look closer they are seats on one side, like bench seating. They have similar in the non-Schengen lounge at the KLM Crown in AMS.

  • JandeW says:

Any idea if existing Hyatt bookings (through Bon Vivant) will be included in the Double Points promotion?

  • Nathan says:

I just noticed that the Amex Platinum Upgrade page has appeared with 40k points to upgrade from the Gold Credit.

They seem to explicitly say that the existing charge card upgrade will continue to be available, which is a bit surprising.

If I currently have the Gold charge card, what would be the best way to take advantage of the upgrade offer? Would it be to make a fresh application for a gold credit card, then immediately upgrade it to Platinum?

  • Malcolm says:

Re the plaza lounge. If I have an AMEX platinum and my wife has a supplementary card does that mean we can get 4 people in?

  • dundj says:

Was in the Plaza Premium first thing this morning. You have the main area which was the No1 Lounge including the Edinburgh Gin bar. At the back right is the interactive room with the shuffleboard and climbing wall.

As you walk in on the left is the VIP room which is for the airline contracts they have or will have. Looks very smart and the seating is better than what was there during the No1 period.

I’ve only heard people scoff at the cost at £44 for two hours so I can’t imagine it will ever be too full.

Overall, a very good lounge which I imagine will be rather well perceived during the review.

    • Peggerz says:

Thanks for this @dundj. Acknowledging @Rob’s comments above but I can only hope QR take a look at that VIP room before my upcoming flight!

    • Mike Hunt says:

At a cost of £44 I would be doing plenty of scoffing during my two hours
