Marriott Bonvoy has launched a new bonus points promotion, starting in mid September and running for three months.

It isn’t hugely generous and it has an annoying ‘starting with your second stay’ rule.  However, if you tend to do one-night stays at the cheaper brands it could work out nicely.

There is also an extra perk for holders of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card.

You must register via this link.

How many bonus Bonvoy points do I earn?

You earn 2,000 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per stay, starting with your second stay during the offer period.

Note that this is per stay and not per night. There is no limit to the number of times you can earn the bonus, although it is not generous enough to justify changing hotels each night on a longer stay.

Got a Marriott Bonvoy American Express card? You will an extra 2,000 points for each Marriott Bonvoy brand you stay at during the promotion, starting with your second brand. Subsequent stays at the same brand do not trigger the 2,000 points.

What are the key dates?

The offer runs from 21st September to 15th December.

You MUST register via this link before your stay.

Registration closes early on 1st December, just to annoy people.

Existing bookings DO count – there is no need to rebook.  Reward bookings do not count

Marriott Bonvoy Autumn 2021 bonus points offer

Is this a good offer?

It’s not life-changing, but at least it is straightforward.  You don’t need to rebook anything.

I value a Marriott Bonvoy point at 0.5p.  This means that the bonus is worth £10 per stay

£10 is not a terrible return if you are doing cheap one night stays – on a £100 bill it is another 10% back on top of your base points and any elite bonus.  It is clearly a bad return if you are doing five nights for £3,000 at the St Regis Mallorca, reviewed here, in which case Hilton’s ‘double points’ offer may suit you better.

If you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express, you would be earning 4,000 points per stay, worth £20, on qualifying stays. If you are likely to stay at a lot of different Marriott Bonvoy brands between now and mid December, you may want to consider getting the card. Whilst you pay a 3% FX when using the card outside the UK, the ‘6 Bonvoy points per £1’ earned on Marriott spend would offset that.

In any event, 2,000 points is better than nothing. You should definitely sign up if you think you may have any Marriott stays over the three month promotion period.

You can register, and find out more, on this page of the Marriott website.

  • Ian M says:

Another underwhelming promo from Marriott. Just had a long stay in London and picked the Biltmore in Mayfair (Hilton) over any Marriott property simply because the Hilton promotion was so good vs nothing from Marriott.

Marriott don’t seem interested in rewarding high spending guests with their promotions these days

  • RussellH says:

The wording on the Marriott website is “Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card holders can earn an additional 2,000 bonus points”.
There have been previous promotions where having a Creation Marriott card did count. I wonder if that would apply to this one.

Main trouble is that Marriott hotels are few and far between, and they do not have any equivalent of HIE or Hampton which are convenient for one night stopovers when travelling. Where there is a convenient Marriott or Delta, it seems to be an ex-Hilton where the price has doubled.

  • Mark says:

Whilst it mentions that Marriott Bonvoy Amex card holders get an additional 2,000 points per stay, starting with the 2nd stay, on paid stays (too many ‘stay/s’ in their wording) unless I’ve missed it, it doesn’t state that the stay has to be paid for using the Bonvoy Amex.
Is it just assumed that you will use your Bonvoy Amex or if you pay with an alternative card will you still get the points?

  • Simon says:

I applied for the Amex yesterday, was accepted and the 15 night have already been added to my account today …. super quick.

Just 13 nights + 14,745 USD to Ambassador Elite!

  • Odd says:

Does it seem like staying in a points+cash rate would not count as an ‘eligible stay’?
