InterContinental Ambassador reverting to its pre-covid rules on 1st January

InterContinental Ambassador is the ‘pay to join’ loyalty programme for InterContinental hotels.
The key benefit is a ‘buy one get one free’ voucher for a weekend stay which you receive each year. Other benefits include $20 of food and drink credit per stay, a guaranteed one category upgrade and a guaranteed 4pm check-out.
Until the end of the year, there is also a special sign-up bonus of 20,000 IHG One Rewards points.
During the pandemic, IHG relaxed the restrictions over where you could use your Ambassador benefits.
From 1st January 2023, everything reverts to normal.
The terms and conditions on the Ambssador website include these terms:
Participating Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants and Regent Hotels & Resorts will accept redemption of the InterContinental Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night through 31 December 2022, excluding Regent Hotels & Resorts in Greater China.
and
InterContinental Ambassador and Royal Ambassador benefits applicable at participating Regent Hotels & Resorts for stays throughout 31 December 2022.
To be honest, I was expecting that Regent would be made a permanent participant in the Ambassador programme, and potentially the Six Senses chain too. These two more recent acquisitions are, theoretically, more high end than InterContinental itself. It no longer makes sense for IHG to run an exclusive loyalty scheme that does not cover all of its three luxury brands.
