A week ago, British Airways announced a new partnership with Uber.

BA is promising 250 Avios just for registering, so this offer is of interest even if you are only an occasional Uber user.

You couldn’t register when the deal was announced, but iPhone users who downloaded the app update released yesterday CAN now register. It also seems to have activated for Android users in the last day or so.

EDIT: Some people cannot register for the offer. From our comments, we have deduced that you cannot register if your last Uber ride was outside the UK, even if your account is linked to a UK mobile number. If you take an Uber ride in the UK it should appear.

Earn Avios from Uber

How does the Avios / Uber deal work?

The new Uber deal will let you collect 1 Avios for every £1 you spend on travel in the UK via the Uber app.

As well as rides, you will also earn on coach and train tickets booked via the app in the UK.

You do not earn anything for Uber Eats orders.

As a launch bonus, everyone who links their British Airways Executive Club and Uber accounts via the Uber app by 31st December will receive 250 bonus Avios.

How do you register?

iPhone users need the app update released yesterday, version 3.536.10003 (which, I note, is a shocking 361MB – that is a ludicrous 7,500 times bigger than the entire memory of my old 48k ZX Spectrum computer in the mid 1980s!).

Open the app and click ‘Account’ in the bottom right, followed by ‘Settings’. You will see this:

Collect Avios from Uber

Click through and you’ll be taken to a page where you can link your Uber account to your British Airways account.

When you return to Uber, it should now show this:

Link Avios to Uber account

It isn’t clear how long it will take for the 250 Avios for registration to appear, but based on what we have been told it does NOT require you to take a ride before they appear.

    Worked fine for me

  • Indy500 says:

I see BAEC in the [Android] app which links to BA login to link accounts. Will not accept my log in details. “Something went wrong”. Maybe overloaded this morning. I’ll try again later.

    • meta says:

This happened to my partner, but if you wait a few more seconds it will go automatically to the screen that it has been linked.

  • Joan says:

I got an email from Uber confirming the link but it didn’t mention a free 250 avios. If they don’t turn up in a few days I might unlink – I don’t use Uber that often .

  • Matt says:

Works for me on Android. Looks like I have version v4.44710003 installed. On the home screen -> account (bottom right) -> settings and for me it’s at the bottom underneath e.g. where you change your home address etc.

  • Marshy says:

I can’t seem to update the app, I have the version one before this one (assuming the numbers are consecutive). Yes, it’s an old Iphone.

  • Rob H not Rob says:

I have the same version on Android and still not showing. Hey ho.

  • Tim says:

All set so no problem but I presume I will get 1.5 Avios per pound as I am an Amex premium account holder ? Ie it won’t overwrite my 1.5 by 1.00 ?

  • Billy says:

Worked for me (iOS) and got confirmation email about linking Avios to Uber but not a single mention about 250 Avios
