News in brief:

Clayton Hotels opens in Glasgow

Whilst you won’t earn any miles or points for staying there – unless you book via Hotels.com Rewards or similar – the new Clayton Hotel Glasgow City may be worth a look if you are heading that way.

As you can see from the image below, a 16 story building has been blended ino the existing listed Custom House building. It is on Clyde Street.

The hotel has 303 rooms, with the public areas based in the refurbished historical part which dates back 180 years.

Clayton’s sister brand, Maldron, also opened a 300 bedroom Glasgow hotel in August 2021. The Irish company now has 17 UK hotels across the two brands with more in the pipeline, including Brighton and Manchester.

The hotel website is here.

Virgin Hotels is also opening in Glasgow with the website now showing 16th March 2023 as the delayed launch date.

easyJet expands its base at Belfast International

easyJet has announced an expansion of its base at Belfast International Airport.

An 8th aircraft will be based in Belfast from the Summer 2023 season. The first new route to be announced is Rhodes, which will see two flights per week from June.

The addition of just one extra aircraft means the creation of 40 new jobs in Belfast, primarily for cabin crew.

    “Blended” ???

Not the word I’d use. More like plonked around,

    Sorry, glass of prosecco!

ps Agree with BA Flyer IHG Stayer!

  • ADS says:

how about a sweepstakes on whether “Fly Atlantic” ever does Fly the Atlantic from Belfast International ?

and if it does manage to launch, whether it lasts more than a year in Belfast ?

  • dougzz99 says:

Slightly OT. Does anyone know why the room numbering in the Clayton at Dublin Airport is so, err… individual.

    • Nihal says:

It happens. We own a flat in a Grade 2 conversion with 32 flats total. The guy who numbered them was either dyslexic (no disrespect to dyslexics!), innumerate (no disrespect to the innumerati!) or blind drunk (definitely no disrespect to habitual drunkards!). Ours is 21 but our neighbours are 32 and 4.

Anyway: in other news – Halifax Bank joins the switching fray, rather generous £175 up for grabs and if you’re an existing customer (or had a Lloyds a/c recently) – you can still get the incentive, no need for DDs & you get the bunce in 10 days.
