If you are planning a trip to Manchester next Spring, Travelzoo has an impressive deal at the 5-star The Lowry hotel.

You get a 1-night stay for two people in a River View room plus breakfast AND a 3-course dinner in the River Restaurant for just £185.

Good hotel deal at The Lowry in Manchester

The £185 rate is valid Sunday to Thursday until 31st May 2023. There is a £50 premium for a Friday or Saturday night stay.

You also get free parking if required, usually £19.50.

The booking process is a little fiddly. You need to order a voucher and only then email the hotel to request a booking. If they cannot take your booking (it isn’t clear if this would only happen if the hotel is full or if there are other criteria) then you can refund your voucher via your Travelzoo account. You don’t need to call anyone.

You can find out more on this page of Travelzoo.

  • Kowalski says:

Is anyone aware of any of the restaurants in London on the Amex list that will sell a gift voucher online or over the phone that will allow the credit to be used?

    • NFH says:

I’m looking to do the same before the end of the year. Many outsource the online sale of gift vouchers to third parties, which have different merchant codes, thereby not qualifying for the offer. I’m expecting to have to go to a restaurant in person.

    • Claire says:

Or any overseas where you could do the same would be amazing. Our trips this year were to usa cities with no option to use. Next year singapore trip offers lots of choice but I think sadly will have to miss out on overseas credit this year.

    • Dan says:

Any Ivy near you for a gift voucher at the desk? Pass year worked with the Amex £200 credit

    • NFH says:

I just phoned Aqua Shard. They sell gift cards only online via a third party, which would not qualify for the offer. You can’t buy gift cards at the restaurant itself, which I assume applies to all the other restaurants in the group.

    • Kowalski says:

I’m outside the UK until next year, so if anyone does find an option that allows us to pay over the phone and redeem the credit it would be great. Surely a good opportunity here for a restaurant to increase revenue! There must be quite a few people in the same boat.

On my last day in London last month I called Cut at 45 Park Lane, asked them if they sell gift cards for the restaurant and they said yes, so I went out of my way to get to the restaurant to buy the gift card, but when I arrived they said the person I spoke to had made an error and they didn’t sell gift cards!

      • NFH says:

I’m struggling to find a restaurant that will take an advance payment in person, let alone over the phone. They all refer me to their web sites to buy a gift card, all of which are processed by another merchant, which doesn’t qualify for the offer.

  • Will says:

planned on using remainder of overseas credit on a recent trip to stockholm but number of restaurants cut from about 15 to 2

    • AlexF says:

I noticed that a few days ago as I’d earmarked next year’s credit for a Stockholm trip next year. Very tedious!

      • Will says:

restaurant oxenstiernan is 1 of the 2 left – i had lunch their last saturday which i really enjoyed. The credit was on the account within a few days

Stayed At SIX hotel which is part of Fine Hotels, the 2 week-end nights cost me £350 not a bad rate with all the benefits

  • SammyJ says:

Brilliant effort with the maps, shame Amex themselves couldn’t spare a few hours to do this themselves.
It would be amazing if someone with the time and knowledge could make a similar map for us country bumpkins out in them there regions who avoid London (and Paris!) like the plague!

    • Mattb says:

Just use the ivy website, that will cover 90%+ of non London venues.

      • SammyJ says:

Yeah that’s the point though, to find what’s not an Ivy! Not many but there are a good few.

  • Pharmark says:

How often is the restaurant list updated ? Hawksmoor Liverpool not yet showing ?

  • Just Nick says:

I have used the credit a couple of weeks ago at The Hawksmoor in Manchester. How long does it then take to post to my account?

  • Charles Martel says:

Can the dining credit be used exclusively for drinks? I’m struggling to find a table for dining on days I’m in London so was thinking of getting a few rounds in at Aqua Shard. Does the bar use the same EPOS?

    • TGLoyalty says:

In my experience never known the bar of a restaurant use a different EPOS

And drinks work no need to eat. In fact used mine on drinks a a few weeks ago

    • NFH says:

I bought drinks at the Lowback, which is on the lower floor of Hawksmoor in Canary Wharf, and received the credit a couple of days later. However, success with this will vary from one establishment to another.

      • Jen T says:

That’s interesting as the Hawksmoor restaurants in London aren’t on the list!

        • NFH says:

Yes, I see that Hawksmoor has dropped off the list since I did this on 19/11/2022.

  • David says:

Can this benefit be spread across different locations? Ie two different restaurants in the uk with a bill of 75 each?

  • Dan says:

Loves it! Great to see the map for the restaurants. It helps for an impromptu visit.

I like Amex but never understood why they are so bad with maps.
