Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 30 Nectar points (19 Avios) per £1 at eBay TODAY

As we trailed last week, eBay is bringing back its ‘Power Hour’ promotion for Valentines Day.

Between noon and 1pm today (Tuesday 14th) you will earn 30 Nectar points per £1 spent at eBay. This converts to 19 Avios per £1. If you value an Avios at 1p, it’s a 19% rebate.

Here’s the small print:

  • you MUST register in advance
  • you only earn the bonus on the first £300 you spend. Your Nectar earning will be capped at (£300 x 30) 9,000 points which would convert into 5,625 Avios.
  • there is a £10 minimum spend
  • you only earn the bonus on ONE ITEM
  • only ‘Buy It Now’ items will qualify

If a seller if offering a bundle of items for a flat combined price – eg ’10 historic FA Cup Final programmes for £50′ then this still counts as ‘one item’.

The standard eBay rules on excluded categories apply. Full details of excluded categories are here but in summary, you won’t earn on:

  • Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles (parts and accessories are NOT excluded)
  • Holidays & Travel
  • Property
  • Gift Vouchers & Coupons
  • Baby Feeding: Formula

‘Gift vouchers’ is a key one to note.

Don’t leave it too close to 1pm. Some readers had issues last year when, buying at the last minute, eBay decided that they had booked the transaction just after 1pm even though the customer pressed ‘buy’ shortly before.

The registration link should be on the eBay home page is here. If not, it may be on on this special eBay / Nectar page which is the same page you need if your Nectar and eBay accounts are not linked.

(If you don’t see the ‘Activate’ button online – and I see it at the top of the home page on mobile – then go via the Nectar app.)

Note that you cannot add your Nectar number at check out – the accounts must be linked before you start.

If you can’t see a registration link above, look in the Nectar app or the Nectar website (log in required).

And remember …. don’t buy anything after 12.55 if you want to be certain of getting the bonus.

PS. If you don’t have the Nectar American Express credit card, take a look at our review here.

  • iEimis says:

Managed to register twice for this promo, it appears that Nectar was also giving out twice the points if you registered twice before making the purchase. In my case I I have 9882 pending despite 9000 cap.

    • Jon says:

Same here, I’m presuming they’ll be cancelled – and the sign up process was a pain – but I’ve got 9000 plus in my account too.

  • JW says:

didnt work for me. just bought something for £80 and its showing 80 points. Got the black friday ones without any issue. somewhat annoyed.

  • Olly Loosemore says:

Mine just shows 21 points, for a £20.99 purchase

    • secretsquirrel says:

Check using Rob’s direct link in the previous page on comments here

  • Steve says:

This worked for me. I see the bonus points (although they are not part of my main total yet), once that’s all settled, will they automatically appear on my general Nectar account so I can get some Avios with them? Or is there a manual process to transfer them? The Ebay page just talks about Ebay vouchers.

  • LLOXYZ says:

Something was off with this promo. Felt like a bait and switch to move people over to the new Nectar/EBay integration. I never wanted to be able to spend Nectar at eBay so never activated that direction. Just had earning activated. So went to register for promo today at 12:00 and it “re linked” my accounts so now it is both Spend and Earn. Regardless the end result for the offer was an error page. Wasn’t going to get into the headache of buying something so in the end i left it.always been hit and miss. But when it doesn’t even tell you if you have even activated the offer or preview the correct amount of points you will earn – I say not worth the hassle.

  • monsieurcurt says:

I spent £2.5k expecting to only get 9k Nectar points but seems like I’ve been rewarded 72,800 points – good day

    • Jerry says:

My purchase was £449 and I have been awarded 13,323 nectar points (if they stick) So on first glance it looks like the offer wasn’t capped at £300 or failed to cap.

      • Paul J says:

Mine did something similar but has now re-adjusted the total to 9000 nectar which is what I expected all along based on a £380 purchase. Points still not moved from EBAY to Nectar though

  • Royback says:

I’ve had no bonus. I followed all the rules. The goods will be returned.

Has anyone taken it up with eBay/Nectar? If so is there a recognised route to follow.

    • Peter says:

I don’t think anyone received them yet?
      Some things I have noted:
      a) my bonus hasn’t arrived yet, nor the base points
      b) on mobile the Nectar page in eBay is not visible
      c) on mobile (desktop view) I cannot see the bonus, only the base points (Nectar eBay page)
      d) on desktop Nectar eBay page bonus is visible

But no idea when the points will be awarded, they always came the next day, even from previous power hours.

      • Rob says:

Got mine in my Nectar account next day, but it may be linked to seller marking order as dispatched.
