New routes: PLAY adds Glasgow to Reykjavik, Aer Lingus adds Liverpool to Dublin

A couple of new route updates which we didn’t manage to squeeze in during the week:

PLAY adds Glasgow to Reykjavik flights

Icelandic budget airline PLAY is adding a new service from Glasgow to Reykjavik.

Flights will start on 26th May. There will be four flights per week for most of the season, with a dip to three in some weeks in September and October.

PLAY flies from Reykjavik to Boston, Washington, Baltimore, New York (Stewart) and Toronto and the flights will be timed to connect to these services. The airline has a decent reputation although it is definitely one for the price sensitive and not time sensitive.

Flights, including long haul, are ‘economy only’ although you can pay for rows with extra legroom.

Aer Lingus adds Liverpool to Dublin flights

Emerald Airlines, the Aer Lingus Regional franchise operator, seems to be adding new routes virtually every week at the moment.

This is good news for anyone with Avios to redeem, as these flights are bookable on points via ba.com. You can also book via aerlingus.com and – instead of booking a straight redemption – use Avios for a cash discount off any flight (this is tricky to set up – instructions here).

The latest route to launch is Liverpool to Dublin.

There will be 11 flights per week with services starting on 27th April.
