British Airways opens a ‘Concorde Room Lite’ at Heathrow Terminal 3 – but not for Gold Guest List

The rumours, it seems, were half-true. British Airways has opened a ‘Concorde Room Lite’ at Heathrow Terminal 3 but it hasn’t gone down well with many travellers.

The Concorde Room, for those who don’t know, is the lounge in Terminal 5 which is exclusively for the use of passengers travelling in First Class or those holding Gold Guest List or Premier status with British Airways.

(The Galleries First lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 isn’t actually meant for anyone flying in First Class. It’s effectively the Gold Card lounge.)

British Airways is moving an increasing number of long haul flights over to Terminal 3.

Any regular HfP reader will know that there are some excellent lounges in Terminal 3 which can be used by BA elite members or anyone flying in Business or First.

You have the Qantas lounge (and, from 2025, a separate Qantas First Class lounge) and the Cathay Pacific Business and First Class lounges. These are well ahead of the BA offerings, and BA is charged a fee – rumoured to be over £100 – whenever a BA traveller uses them.

You also have two poor American Airlines lounges (reviews here and here) but I doubt many BA passengers are bothering with those. They are very quiet, however.

Terminal 3 now has a ‘Concorde Room Lite’ – but Gold Guest List members are banned

The British Airways lounge in Terminal 3 is split into a Business and First area. The First area, as per Terminal 5, is effectively the Gold Card lounge because until this month British Airways had no flights from Terminal 3 with First Class.

As per our most recent review, it is absolutely nothing to get excited about.

What has changed is that part of the First lounge has now been blocked out, given a coat of paint and relaunched as a ‘Concorde Room Lite’.

(EDIT: It turns out that the official name is ‘First Dining Room’)

Intriguingly, only the following people are allowed access:

  • anyone flying in First Class on a oneworld flight, plus a guest

British Airways Gold Guest List members, who have Concorde Room access in Terminal 5, are NOT allowed to access this area.

The decision seems to be down to space, as the area only has a reported 12 tables. It is in the small room behind the bar:

BA Galleries First Heathrow T3 window seating

It’s worth noting that there are only 16 BA First Class seats flying out of Terminal 3 per day (eight to Bermuda, eight to Bahrain). It’s not as if British Airways needed to create an extra lounge space to keep its First Class passengers happy.

A reader sent us a full suite of photographs this morning, so we will run a follow-up article tomorrow to show GGL members what they are missing.

Mmm bit of a niche article, just like those snippets for Northerners

    • Rob says:

Will easily be the most read article today, and the sequel tomorrow will be the most read tomorrow.

    • yonasl says:

@Rob , please only do articles that affect airport located in ALL of the UK next. Thanks

      • yorkieflyer says:

No it’s about a small subset of travellers on BA from LHR T3, it doesn’t get much more niche than that in my humble opinion

        • Rob says:

More people read the article before 7am than will actually use this lounge over a full 12 months 🙂

      • Johyu5 says:

Whose fault is it that you do not live in arguably the only important city in this declining country?

        • Rob says:

I think you missed yonasl’s sarcasm!

        • Navara says:

Don’t you watch escape to the country?
I’m eagerly awaiting the DSA reopening article ✈️

  • jj says:

It’s funny how upset people get when you take away something that they never previously wanted to use

I feel I’ll be making this same comment when Stephen Mulhern is let go from Catchphrase

  • NigelthePensioner says:

We shall see what its like in October if BAH is still flying from T3!! Will almost certainly then hop to CP first lounge as it is on a par with Qatar in T4. Superb.

  • NorthernLass says:

My first thought was also that there aren’t many BA flights which have F cabins departing T3 just now. Does this mean they plan to shift more from T5?

    • Rob says:

Really not clear what it means, frankly. Clearly waste of money to serve 6-7 F passengers per day (assuming cabin half full) and I’d still probably head to Cathay F myself 🙂

  • Hilda M says:

I’ve just checked in with Finnair and they say – use Cathay Pacific lounge & it’s on the boarding pass as “Lounge Invitation for 2 persons” I was directed to the F section as I’m emerald but prefer the Business section as I normally just want some water, tea and maybe a yogurt (had my Sofitel brekkie already 🙂
As an aside – Finnair chat bot is really rubbish: after a long “chat” of answering the same question over & over, it said they were to busy to transfer me to A Human !!

    • Rhys says:

You can enjoy water, tea and yoghurt in the First Class section too you know 😉

  • Tim says:

My wife and I are flying from terminal three tomorrow, and we still have the dying embers of our gold status, so what is our best bet lounge wise?

I’ll be driving at our destination in Europe, so won’t be able to drink much bubbly.

    • Rob says:

      Cathay First

    • Harry T says:

CX or QF. I actually find the service very slow in CX F dining. If you are going at a time when the full dining experience is available in QF J lounge, I prefer that to CX F (get the squid).

      • Lady London says:

Coffee better in QF too it you are there at a “coffee” time of day.

QF breakfast (Western style) better than CX if you’re there at brekkie too.

        Try both

        • benw says:

I had the worst croissants of my life in QF, but they do a very good oat milk flat white. AA first lounge has great service and a good egg Florentine (but feels like a care home). Will be a shame if BA block off the room behind the bar next to the kitchens as it’s very peaceful with lots of light – had it to myself the other day so didn’t bother moving to CX.

          • JDB says:

Yes, the croissants and other viennoiseries in the QF lounge are terrible; when we were there, they were clearly several days old and most looked like someone had sat on them. Together with flaccid chewy bacon, very odd tasting sausages and some powdered egg/play-doh type stuff, it was a pretty poor breakfast; actually far worse than BA. Juice was poor and the only water was the ‘special’ flavoured refillable stuff that was also just old tap water. Coffee was good and loos smart/spotless, so as others have remarked previously, those are the only things to go to QF for. When the restaurant is open, it is better, but not anything to write home about or that one might pay money for.

  • Bernard says:

BA is consistent in being inconsistent.
It’s not the work experience kid. Worse it’s some kid who used to be in IAG investors communications (back when his boss Andrew Barker was a convicted paedophile news report in Metro News 26/11/2018).
So an untrained inexperienced child is now creating havoc at T3

  • Richie says:

Could the condition be changed to having a mininum number of lifetime TPs for Golds?
