Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Donate Avios to selected charities, with British Airways doubling your donation

British Airways has, for some time now, been allowing Executive Club members to donate spare or unwanted Avios to projects supported by the BA Better World Community Fund. See here for details.

Until the end of the year, IAG Loyalty will match, Avios for Avios, your donation, up to a total match funding of £100,000 equivalent. 1 Avios is worth a donation of 0.8p, so with the matched funding your chosen good cause will receive 1.6p per Avios.

Donate Avios to the BA Better World Community Fund

The Community Fund allows UK registered charities or social enterprise working in the UK to receive funding as part of their own crowdfunding activities. If you run or work for a UK registered charity or social enterprise you can apply to have your own fundraising appeal featured.

The minimum donation is just 125 Avios, with a maximum of 30,000 Avios per member per month. You can pick a project from the list on the website, such as this one:

Just used T3 short stay for 5 days. Price had dropped to £90, same as for non official meet and greet. Car park barely half full. Presumably they are using some sort of dynamic pricing but certainly not maximising revenue. Double points isn’t really going to help much…

  • dougzz99 says:

So the drop-off charge was to limit car use, but then offer double points on parking. A cynic might think Heathrow had another agenda here.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Don’t think a £5 drop of charge is going to make you drop £60+ on parking.

  • Gordon says:

    Re airport Parking Costs,
Taking our granddaughters to Orlando in November. Party of 5 plus luggage of course. As usual we booked my wife’s car into purple parking at LGW. With Daughter and granddaughters in tow. As we could not fit everyone and luggage in the car I looked at all parking options for my commercial vehicle 5.5m long, No options available. So I booked a train from North Essex to LGW taking one case, on an open return (2 weeks), Cost £64.29. 2 hours journey time, I rarely travel by train so I was pleasantly surprised, as the parking cost for the car was £76. Also saving the on fuel and avoiding the typical traffic issues that come with traveling, especially the M25, I will look at this option again.

On Heathrow Rewards bonus points – I never got any points from the recent HEX promo or other shopping at Heathrow, despite showing the card/entering the number each time. How to best chase them? The old email address doesn’t work anymore (“not monitored”) and the website has a form that crashes or asks for “invoice number or transaction code” and won’t accept the claim without it.

  • Bernard says:

Not clear if Heathrow parking is in the ‘ULEZ’ toll zone. That’s and Heathrow’s incredible high prices (I looked at what I paid in 2019 ands it’s doubled), mean it’ll be Freenow for me.
