Marriott opens a Four Points hotel in Edinburgh

For some reason Marriott didn’t publicise this three weeks ago when it actually happened, but the company has opened a mid-market Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Edinburgh.

This is a conversion of the former Apex Haymarket hotel.

This is only the second Four Points hotel in the UK. It is virtually a boutique with just 69 rooms. The restaurant, Almafino, is Italian themed with ‘a centrepiece pizza oven’ and replaces the previous ‘Metro West End’ restaurant from the Apex days.

The location seems promising, by Haymarket railway station. Midweek rates in the coming weeks are £175 – £200 per night.

You can find out more on the hotel website here.

  • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

I saw the headline and thought it said Priority Pass FESS up. I was readying some popcorn.

  • Olly says:

Is this also the case for LoungeKey?

    • Rob says:

      Suspect so but no email.

    • Numpty says:

In other countries HSBC has moved from Loungekey to Dragon Pass, wonder if any such plans for UK?

      • Tariq says:

Yes, email just in from HSBC.

“We’re happy to let you know that we’re changing the airport lounge access benefit provided with your Premier World Elite Credit Card. This will change from LoungeKey to Priority Pass™ membership from 1 October 2023.

You and any additional cardholders will still be able to access lounges free of charge. Guest fees will be charged at £24 per guest, per visit. This will be applied to your Premier World Elite Card.

If you choose to pre-book, there will be an additional fee from £6 per person to secure your booking.“

  • Stuart says:

Wonder what experience people have had this summer with Priority Pass. NCL lounge is always ‘full’, with massive chunks of it blocked off for travel companies that offered free lounge access when you book with them

    • James C says:

Although once you’re in its been fascinating for those who enjoy observing human behaviour…

    • Tankmc says:

I have PP with my credit card and travel frequently, I have never had any success in the UK, or Europe for that matter, using it,

      • Peter K says:

That’s unlucky. I’ve had the opposite situation. I’ve never had it rejected, though in reportedly hard to get in places I suck it up and pay cash in advance to guarantee access (or I’m flying club).

  • Luke says:

Is Priority Pass still a thing?!

    • James C says:

Yes but it neither offers you ‘priority’ or a ‘pass’ into many UK lounges post covid…

    • Lady London says:

At least still as much of a thing as “the Executive Club” of British Airways.

  • ankomonkey says:

£24 is getting into the territory of poor value to me based on the UK lounge offerings with Priority Pass.

  • Tankmc says:

Priority pass needs to just go. It is now bordering on false advertising with the lack of lounge availability. First, you need to find a lounge who accepts it, Then, most of the time it’s “full”. Then on the rare occasion you strike gold… the people on the desk are snotty and rude to PP holders
and look at you like you just let off a bad small 😂

  • jjoohhnn says:

Have seen rumours that BA is in talks with Jet2 about selling them the LGW shorthaul business..

    • Andrew. says:

      Haven’t BA subsequently denied it?

      • jjoohhnn says:

They did it seems.. they denied they were selling to Jet2.. Maybe they are planning to buy Jet2 instead?!

        • Rob says:

IAG has always said it wanted to do something like this. Snag is that Jet2, more than most, has a specific staff culture which IAG would trash.

          • Richie says:

Would TUPE law stop any ‘trashing’ by IAG?

          • Rob says:

Short term yes, but salaries for new recruits will be cut to Euroflyer levels and rosters will presumably be trashed to Euroflyer levels. Expect the extensive and decent Jet2 paid catering to go. Expect extra seats rammed into the aircraft etc.

People genuinely like Jet2. It’s a weird concept for regular BA flyers to comprehend, but they do.

          • The Savage Squirrel says:

Exactly this. My first thought on reading that comment was: noooooo. Don’t let IAG buy it and mess it up.

    • Lady London says:

Like Jet2 would want to go up against Easyjet in their LGW stronghold? Pull the other one ….

    • Jack says:

a complete made up myth that will not ever happen. Euroflyer is doing well and would not be expanding if it was not with more planes and new routes

  • David S says:

My OH has a PP but when her Amex Gold membership year rolled over she received no communication from anyone about passes for the new year. Do you get a new physical card each year of do the four passes automatically get loaded to the existing card. Thx
