Earlier this week we told you that the Daily Mail is ending its relationship with Nectar.

You will no longer be able to collect points by submitting codes from printed copies of the newspaper as of 14th September. Anyone with a digital or printed subscription can continue to collect until the end of November.

It seems that the Mail has a few Nectar points to use up, because it has launched a decent subscription offer.

Daily Mail subscription offer

For £20, you will receive a one year digital subscription to the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday, plus 4,000 Nectar points.

4,000 Nectar points converts into 2,500 Avios, so you are getting 2,500 Avios for £20.

(If you drink Caffe Nero coffee, you’re getting 11 drinks @ 350 points each for £20!)

The only snag is that your subscription will auto-renew after one year at the full price of £120. You will need to cancel it before that point, and looking at the T&C this is only possible by telephone. It could be a little expensive if you forget.

Daily Mail Nectar offer

This offer is definitely not targeted. If you go to themailsubscriptions.co.uk you will see it come up.

Anyone who remembers the Mail subscription deal of a couple of years ago which was targeted – and led to everyone who wasn’t targeted getting their subscription cancelled – can rest easy.

In a bad piece of UX, you need to input your credit card details before you see the screenshot above which confirms the offer. You can still back out at this point though.

    Superb.

  • Luke says:

It would help if the Nectar to Avios conversion tool worked, I tried but it says it’s not available at the moment.

  • HackinJack says:

Re: the subscription auto-renew, FYI if you use Paypal for payment method you can then immediately go into your Paypal account and turn off auto-renew there. That’s always my strategy for ghastly auto-renew subscriptions for which I have a pathological hatred.

For any sub I’m interested in which has auto-renew, no Paypal option and cancelling involves a phone call I tend to not do it at all.

    • T says:

Revolut have single use virtual cards for online shopping I have used for this purpose

    • yorkieflyer says:

The Economist is another offender here re the auto renew although at least it can be cancelled through online chat

      • BJ says:

I had a horrendous time trying to cancel the Economist. Had it not been for thst I’d have signed my partner up this year.

        • Bagoly says:

My worst ever cancellation experience was Which?
Which is deeply ironic seeing as their editorial focus is about getting fair treatment for consumers.

Separate from bad faith about how to cancel, the subscription departments at both the FT and The Economist seem just very badly managed, which is again ironic considering their editorial focus.

Surfshark is ‘phone only to cancel, but I had used a disposable card for that.

  • HackinJack says:

I wondered what the benefit was too! I seem to be able to read it in full online without even logging in. Mostly only read it for a chuckle at Quentin Letts column, which is happily back after a sojourn behind the Times’ paywall. As for the rest of the content I already get enough “we’re all going to die” headlines from other places.

  • Gordon says:

@Immi, I would like to know how many white pilots are employed by the following South African Airlines! YAWN….

Mango, Airlink, Kulula.co, FlySafair, TAAG Angola Airlines, South African Express, Comair, CemAir, Safair, LIFT, Federal Air, 1time, Springbok.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

I believe Comair currently employs the same number of white pilots as they do black pilots.

  • Gordon says:

You might as well take this down as well Rob?

  • Gordon says:

No point in keeping it up!

  • BJ says:

It never ceases to amaze me that there is a inverse relationship between the quality of aricles on HfP and the extent of reader-engagement with them as evidenced by the comments! I hope this does not hold true for page views.
