Pre covid it was relatively easy to find business class flights from Europe to Australia for £2,000. The most common option was taking one of the Chinese carriers out of Amsterdam.
Those fares are long gone, although with a definite softening of fares now I’d never say never again.
What IS bookable is an intriguing deal with Air India from Paris CDG.
The carrier is offering flights to Sydney from March 2024 onwards for €2,615 return.
Air India business class isn’t life changing – here’s a detailed blog review of the 787 seat – but the airline is a member of Star Alliance so you’d earn a decent chunk of redeemable and status miles too.
It appears that you can also get a free stopover in Delhi if you wish, which you might want given the lengthy stopover on the way back.

How to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards (July 2025)
None of the Star Alliance airlines currently have a UK credit card.
There is, however, still a way to earn Star Alliance miles from a UK credit card.
The route is via Marriott Bonvoy. Marriott Bonvoy hotel loyalty points convert to over 40 airlines at the rate of 3:1.
The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points is via the official Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card. It comes with 20,000 points for signing up and 2 points for every £1 you spend. At 2 Bonvoy points per £1, you are earning (at 3:1) 0.66 airline miles per £1 spent on the card.
