The Westin Dublin hotel, which has always been my preferred choice in the city, has swapped brands inside Marriott and become part of the Autograph Collection.

The new name is The College Green Hotel Dublin, Autograph Collection.

College Green Hotel Dublin

Autograph is Marriott’s collection of independent hotels which are given freedom from strict brand standards in return for offering an upmarket experience.

The hotel, image below, was converted from three historic buildings and has recently had a full renovation. Changes included an expansion of the Atrium Lounge and the creation of a new Library Lounge. 19 additional bedrooms have been added, overlooking Trinity College and College Green.

Interesting move by the Westin Dublin – it feels a bit risky for me to rename a relative Dublin institution. How many are going to search, not see the name, assume it is closed for renovation and book somewhere else? The new name is a bit too long and generic too

I agree. Clearly the hotel wants to remain part of Marriott. It’s possible some of the refurb work included doing stuff which broke Westin brand standards but I’d be surprised, unless (say) they wanted to scrap 24hr room service or similar. You can argue that the Westin brand doesn’t stand for much in Europe but it would work for the huge US tourist market in Dublin.

pretty sure that it will still be referred to as the Westin a decade from now!

  • OnslowSW7 says:

For the HK Sevens package- sounds great but I would add a note of caution and check your fare class if booking business. The dreaded ‘P class’ does not award Tier Points or Avios despite being a mid level fare bucket…. Be warned!
